Nanasawa Rehabilitation Hospital: Ghost Rumors on the Site of Nanasawa Castle

Kamui Kotan: Hokkaido’s Sacred Gorge With a Haunted Reputation
目次

English Version

Nanasawa Rehabilitation Hospital in Atsugi, Kanagawa, is tied to a few quiet but unsettling local rumors.

Some say that an old-fashioned princess has been seen on the hospital’s spiral staircase. Others claim that the mountain side of the property is home to many local land spirits and animal spirits.

The reason these stories linger may be connected to the land itself. The hospital is said to stand on the former site of Nanasawa Castle. In the late Muromachi period, this area was associated with conflict between Uesugi Noritada and Ashikaga Shigeuji, the Kamakura kubō.

The location is listed as 1304 Nanasawa, Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Because this is connected to a real medical facility and surrounding land, visitors should be respectful, avoid entering restricted areas, and not disturb patients, staff, or private property.
