The Doppelgänger Murder Plot: A Chilling True-Crime Case from Russia to New York, Part 1

English Version

Okunoshima, located off Tadanoumi in Takehara, Hiroshima Prefecture, is said to be a place where photographs of abandoned buildings often capture something ghostly.

During World War II, the island was used for poison gas production, and many ruins from that period still remain today. According to local rumors, more than 300 people connected to the poison gas facilities died, and some say a heavy sense of resentment still lingers around the island.

In recent years, however, Okunoshima has become better known to travelers as “Rabbit Island,” thanks to the large number of rabbits living there. Many tourists now visit for the animals, giving the island a quiet and peaceful atmosphere at first glance.

If you visit, remember that the ruins are historical sites and can be dangerous. Do not enter restricted or unstable areas, and follow local signs and guidance while exploring.
