English Version

It is rumored that simply touching Nakitō, the “Crying Tower,” can bring a curse. Some also say that anyone who sees the tower may later encounter a ghost.

According to local tradition, the stone tower was built by nearby residents to mourn those who died in the Battle of Susaki, one episode of Nitta Yoshisada’s attack on Kamakura in June 1333.

Another legend says that during the Muromachi period, the stone tower was temporarily moved to the nearby temple Shōrenji. After that, people supposedly heard the sound of quiet sobbing night after night. From this story, it came to be known as Nakitō—the Crying Tower.

Location: 424 Terabun, Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

If you visit, be respectful of the site and surrounding area. Do not touch the tower, enter restricted spaces, or disturb local residents.
