English Version
Hachioji Castle Ruins in Motohachioji, Hachioji City, Tokyo, is known not only as a historic battlefield site but also as a place surrounded by ghost stories.
Some visitors have claimed that spirits followed them all the way home, or that they felt something trailing behind them after leaving the area. Because of stories like these, it is not a place to visit lightly or as a joke.
The ruins are associated with a fierce battle, and according to local legend, many women at the castle found themselves in a situation where death seemed unavoidable. Some are said to have taken their own lives, partly because they did not want to become a burden to the soldiers.
There is also a grim story that the water flowing from the waterfall at the site once turned bright red.
Today, Hachioji Castle Ruins are a real historical location. If you visit, go during appropriate hours, stay on marked paths, respect the site, and avoid unsafe or intrusive behavior.
