Iimoriyama in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Fukushima, is known as the place where members of the Byakkotai, a youth unit of the Aizu Domain, died by mass suicide during the final years of the samurai era, when Aizu was fighting the new Meiji government.
According to local rumor, the spirits of the Byakkotai can sometimes be seen walking through the area, still bleeding from their final moments.
The site is associated with Iimoriyama’s Sazaedo and the history of the Boshin War, making it a place where tragedy, memory, and ghost stories overlap. Visitors should treat the area with respect, stay on public paths, and avoid visiting in unsafe conditions or entering any restricted areas.
