At Jitsugyoji Temple in Funamicho, Hakodate, there is a stone associated with a strange rumor: some say they have heard crying coming from it.
According to the story, the lingering resentment or sorrow of a mother and child is said to dwell within the stone. Because of this, it has become known as a “night-crying stone,” tied to whispers of voices heard when the area is quiet.
The site is located in Hakodate, Hokkaido, around 18-18 Funamicho. If you visit, be respectful of the temple grounds, avoid going at inappropriate hours, and do not enter any restricted areas.
