English Version
Old Isegami Tunnel in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, is often mentioned in local ghost stories for reported sightings of spirits, including women, children, and construction workers.
According to rumors, ghost sightings are not limited to the old tunnel. People also claim that strange apparitions continue to appear around the newer tunnel as well.
One of the best-known stories describes a woman in a kimono standing by the road and waving at passing cars. When a driver stops and lets her into the vehicle, she is said to vanish without a trace.
Other unsettling rumors include groaning voices echoing inside the tunnel and the belief that anyone who drives back and forth through it several times may become cursed. These stories are often described as experiences that cannot be easily explained by ordinary senses.
Some locals speculate that the hauntings may be connected to the lingering resentment of women who lost their lives during the Isewan Typhoon, though this remains only a rumor.
