Tachimachi Cape in Hakodate: Haunted Cliff Rumors and Ghost Photo Stories

Can You Spot a Ghost Photo by Its Color? Why Red Is Said to Be a Warning Sign
目次

English Version

At Tachimachi Cape, there are rumors that if you peer down from the sheer cliffs, something may grab at your feet and try to pull you over. The area is also known among ghost-story fans as a place where strange or “spirit” photographs are said to be taken.

According to local stories, in 2002 a man died by suicide at Tachimachi Cape, reportedly because of debt. Afterward, it is said that his wife and child also jumped from the same place.

Other incidents are also associated with the cape in rumor and local memory, including cars going over the cliff and a woman who was assaulted and then abandoned there. Because of these stories, some people wonder whether something spiritual might be behind the many unsettling and difficult-to-explain events connected to the area.

Location: Around 15-23 Sumiyoshi-cho, Hakodate, Hokkaido.

Tachimachi Cape is a real coastal cliff area. If you visit, stay on marked paths, keep away from cliff edges, and do not enter restricted areas, especially at night or in bad weather.
