Sky Rest New Muroto: A Haunted Ruin in Kochi Prefecture

Are Earthquake Clouds Real? Japan’s Creepy Rumors of Quake Omens and Strange Natural Signs
目次

English Version

Sky Rest New Muroto is often introduced as one of Kochi Prefecture’s haunted spots. It is also well known among fans of abandoned places in Japan.

Because the site is a ruin, its exterior has a weathered, rusted look, giving it a gloomy atmosphere even before any ghost stories are mentioned. Over time, several eerie rumors have become attached to the place.

One story says that if you visit at night, you may hear voices or sense someone nearby, even though no one should be there.

Another rumor tells of footsteps echoing behind you inside the abandoned building—the sharp sound of high heels. Then, according to the tale, a woman appears with disheveled hair, wearing a white dress.

Some people say this presence may not be a spirit bound to the land itself. Instead, the theory is that wandering spirits were brought there from other locations by people exploring abandoned places, and then remained at Sky Rest New Muroto.

As the story goes, more spirits were gradually drawn in, making the site’s reputation grow even stronger. Today, it is sometimes described as a gathering place for both wandering spirits and earthbound ghosts.

As with any abandoned structure, do not enter unsafe buildings or trespass on private property. If you visit the area, view it only from a safe and legal location.
