Fujimiya Shrine is known as one of Kochi Prefecture’s more famous haunted spots. According to stories told about the shrine, a severed head is said to float through the air and attack people who come to visit.
The legend describes a young girl calling out to someone. Just as the visitor thinks a child has approached them, the girl’s head suddenly separates from her body and flies away into the air.
Fujimiya Shrine was not originally considered a haunted location. However, after reports of this strange paranormal phenomenon began to spread, some came to believe that it had become one of Kochi’s strongest places for negative spiritual energy.
Visitors who take photos at the shrine have also claimed that orbs appear in their pictures, as if they are flying around the grounds.
If you visit, remember that shrines are religious and local community spaces. Be respectful, avoid restricted areas, do not go alone at night, and never trespass for the sake of a ghost story.
