Akita Prefecture has its share of places rumored to be haunted, and one of the best-known is the former site of the Oga Princess Hotel in Oga City. In Japan, abandoned buildings and ruins often become the center of ghost stories, and this unused hotel is said to be no exception.
That said, the Oga Princess Hotel site is still private property, even if it is abandoned. Entering without permission is trespassing, so it is not a place travelers should try to explore.
Horose Tunnel in Gojome
Another famous haunted spot in Akita is Horose Tunnel, located in Gojome Town, Minamiakita District. Like many tunnels in Japanese ghost lore, it is said to be home to various spirits: people who died in accidents, or workers who may have lost their lives during construction.
But the story most often associated with Horose Tunnel is more specific. Many people who claim to have seen something inside the tunnel describe the same figure: a male student wearing a hood. According to the rumor, if a hooded schoolboy begins walking toward you, you should never meet his eyes.
Because, the story says, he is not human.
The origin of Horose Tunnel’s reputation is said to be connected not to an accident inside the tunnel itself, but to a nearby bridge called Nise-no-Hashi Bridge. According to local rumors, a male student died by suicide there, and his spirit has been seen wandering around the tunnel area. The hooded student is not said to be the only person who died at the bridge, either.
Rumors can be frightening in their own way. Once a place becomes known for suicide, stories can spread and draw more tragedy to the same location. Around Horose Tunnel, the hooded student is the most famous apparition, but he is not the only one people talk about.
Some say they have seen an elderly woman walking inside the tunnel. Others describe passing a man in work clothes at night, thinking it was strange for someone to be walking there, then checking the rearview mirror only to find that no one was behind them.
A Quiet Place by Day, a Different Feeling by Night
During the day, Horose Tunnel is said to feel calm, and there are few stories of people seeing ghosts in daylight. Most of the eerie reports are associated with nighttime visits.
If you go to the area, do so only where it is legal and safe. Do not trespass, do not block the road, and do not stop on or near the bridge. The area is associated not only with ghost stories but also with real deaths, so it should be treated with respect rather than as a joke.
Visitors are especially warned not to stand on Nise-no-Hashi Bridge or lean over its railing. The railing is said to be low, and local rumors claim that something from below may pull people toward the other side. Whether or not you believe the supernatural stories, the physical danger is real.
Even if you do not see a ghost, traffic is another risk. Many people visit by car, and a dark tunnel or roadside at night can be dangerous. Drive carefully, stay aware of your surroundings, and leave immediately if you feel unsafe.
At Horose Tunnel and Nise-no-Hashi Bridge, people say many spirits remain, trying to pull the living into their world. Whether you take that literally or not, this is a place where caution and respect matter.

廃墟で有名な男鹿プリンセスホテルの跡地。秋田県にも数多くの心霊スポットがあります。秋田県でもっとも有名な心霊スポットと言えば、秋田県男鹿市にある男鹿プリンセスホテルの跡地です。。心霊スポットと言えば、廃墟、廃屋。使われなくなった男鹿プリンセスホテルには、多くの幽霊がいるとか。有名な場所を紹介するはいいのですが、こちらの心霊スポットは、廃墟になったとは言え、所有者が存在します。勝手に私有地に入ること禁止されているので、誰でも足を運べる心霊スポットをご紹介します。
更に有名な心霊スポット「保呂瀬トンネル」。秋田県南秋田郡五城目町にある保呂瀬トンネルです。廃墟同様、トンネルには多くの幽霊が存在すると言われています。そこで、事故に遭った人、そのトンネルを作る際に災害に見舞われて命を落とした人などです。。しかし、こちらの心霊スポットの保呂瀬トンネルは、トンネルの中で見たという人が口をそろえて言うのは、男子学生だという事です。フードを被った男子学生が、こちらに向かって歩いてきたら、決して目を合わせてはいけません。
それは、人間ではないからです。なぜ保呂瀬トンネルが秋田で有名な心霊スポットになったのか。詳しく話すと、これは保呂瀬トンネル内で起こった事故で浮かばれない男性学生が、トンネル内を彷徨っているわけではないそうです。保呂瀬トンネルの手前にある橋、荷背乃橋というところで、男性学生が投身自殺をして、命を落としたことで、その男子学生がトンネル付近を彷徨っているということです。この橋で自殺を計り、命を落としたのは、このフードを被った男子学生だけではありません。
噂というのは怖いもので、ここから自殺したという噂があれば、命を終えたい人達は「そこでだったら確実に死ねるのだろう」と自殺が連鎖されてしまうのです。こちらの保呂瀬トンネルでは、フードを被った男性学生の有名を観たというのが有名な話ですが、それ以外の幽霊を見たという心霊現象も多数聞かれます。老婆がトンネル内を歩いていたという話もありますし、作業服を着た男を見て、夜間にトンネル内を歩くなんて不思議だなと思って通り過ぎて、バックミラーで再度後ろを確認したら、誰の姿もなかったという話も聞きます。
日中は穏やかな保呂瀬トンネル。秋田県で有名な心霊スポットと呼ばれる保呂瀬トンネルですが、日中に通った人で、幽霊などを見たという話を聞いたことはありません。もし、秋田県の心霊スポットのこちらのトンネルに行くのであれば、夜に車で行くことをおススメします。秋田県で有名な心霊スポットである保呂瀬トンネル、こちらは幽霊が出るというのは勿論ですが、自殺の名所としても有名な場所なので、行く際には覚悟をもっていくことが良いでしょう。秋田県内で自殺者を多く出す橋があるこちらのトンネル、さっと横切るのではなく、幽霊がこちらに向かって歩いてくるという噂なので、何かを感じたら、その場から離れることがおススメです。
茶化すことが絶対にしないでください。また、車を橋の手前に止めて、荷背乃橋に立つことはしないでください。手すりも低く、下をのぞきこんだら、下から何かに引っ張られてしまい、自らが望まない死を迎えてしまう可能性もあるからです。ミイラ取りがミイラになってしまう可能性もあるのです。多くの自殺者を出した秋田県の保呂瀬トンネル、また手前の荷背乃橋には、多数の幽霊が存在して、生きている人間をあちらの世界に引っ張ってしまうと言われていますので、細心の注意が必要です。
幽霊が見えずとも、車での来訪者ばかりなので、交通事故にも気を付けなければいけません。不注意ではなく、あちらの世界から呼ばれて、交通事故に遭ってしまうということにもなりかねませんから。見えるもの全てが、こちらの世界のものだと思わないように…。
