Yokomuki Onsen Lodge: A Haunted Ruin in Fukushima Known for Child Spirit Sightings

Japan’s Endangered Shrines: Kincho Shrine, Kingoryu Shrine, and How Travelers Can Help

English Version

Many of the spirits said to appear at Yokomuki Onsen Lodge are rumored to be children.

Visitors and ghost-story fans often mention the apparition of a young girl seen in the bath area, as well as the figure of a boy waving from a third-floor window. There are also stories of spirits connected to people who died by suicide appearing on the property.

One area said to be especially dangerous is the large hall on the first basement level. Details are unclear, but within Fukushima, this abandoned site is often mentioned alongside the so-called Haunted Pension as one of the prefecture’s best-known ruins.

The lodge is located in the Wakamiya area of Inawashiro, Yama District, Fukushima Prefecture, near Prefectural Route 30. As with any abandoned building, do not enter without permission. Old structures can be unstable, and visiting them may be unsafe or illegal.
