English Version

The Old Shichirui Tunnel in Mihonoseki, Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, is rumored to be haunted by the spirit of a woman wearing red.

After the newer Shichirui Tunnel was built, the old tunnel fell out of use and was eventually closed. Because it is no longer an active public route, visitors should not try to enter the tunnel or any sealed-off area.

The tunnel is also said to have had another nickname: “Mad Dog Tunnel.” According to local rumor, a German shepherd that used to be kept near the tunnel barked loudly and often, which led people to associate the place with that unsettling name.

The location is associated with the area around Moriyama, Mihonoseki-cho, Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture.
