Sasaya Pass: Ghost Rumors on a Dangerous Mountain Road in Miyagi

Rutilated Quartz Meaning: Money Luck, Decisiveness, and the Golden Needle Power Stone

English Version

Sasaya Pass is associated with a wide range of reported ghostly encounters, including sightings of women, defeated warriors, and a male postal worker. The locations of these stories also vary, from sharp curves in the road to tunnels along the route.

Locals are said to treat Sasaya Pass with caution, and some reportedly avoid driving it for work during the winter if they can. The road is narrow, with repeated sharp bends and poor visibility. When snow piles up, accidents can happen, and people familiar with the area may turn back before reaching the pass, deciding that it is simply not safe that day.

Perhaps because of this reputation, many of the rumors about Sasaya Pass involve ghosts said to be connected to traffic accidents.

The area is located around Imajuku Yamagishi in Kawasaki Town, Shibata District, Miyagi Prefecture. If you plan to visit, check road and weather conditions in advance, avoid winter driving unless properly prepared, and do not stop in unsafe places on the road.
