Fukuyama Green Line: Haunted Tunnel Rumors on a Scenic Hiroshima Road

Oizumi Ryokuchi in Osaka: Haunted Park Legends and Ghost Stories
目次

English Version

The Fukuyama Green Line in Hiroshima Prefecture is known as a scenic driving route, but it also has a reputation for unsettling local rumors.

According to one story, if you stop your car inside the tunnel late at night and turn off the headlights, the ghost of a woman may appear. Another rumor says that if you enter the tunnel with the windows open, you can hear the sound of a child crying.

There are also accounts of cars suddenly stalling near the tunnel, with the engine refusing to start again.

The stories are not limited to the tunnel itself. Some say the entire Green Line carries a strange spiritual atmosphere, and that eerie phenomena have been reported in several places along the road. The areas around Jizo statues and nearby gravestones are said to have especially frequent sightings.

The area around the tunnel is also known for curves and stretches where drivers can easily pick up speed, and accidents have reportedly occurred there over the years. If you visit, treat it as a real road first and a haunted spot second: do not stop inside tunnels, turn off your lights, block traffic, or visit in a way that puts yourself or others at risk.

Location: Fukuyama Green Line, Tomocho Ushiroji, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture.
