English Version
Inokashira Park in Mitaka, Tokyo, is often known as a peaceful green escape, but it also has a darker set of rumors attached to its pond.
One story says that the ghost of a headless woman in a white one-piece dress appears from the water and silently beckons to people. Another well-known urban legend claims that couples who ride a boat on Inokashira Pond will eventually break up.
Whether these legends are connected to the rumored beckoning woman is unclear. However, Inokashira Park was also the site of a real unsolved case: the Inokashira Park dismemberment murder, which occurred on April 23, 1994. The case remained unsolved, and the statute of limitations expired at midnight on April 23, 2009.
Only about one-third of the victim’s body was ever found. The victim’s head and much of the torso have still not been recovered.
The park is a real public place in the Inokashira area of Mitaka, Tokyo. If you visit, go during safe hours, respect park rules, and avoid entering restricted or unsafe areas.
