The most famous rumor about Motoujina Lighthouse is that the ghost of a woman appears there. However, some say the most powerful haunted spot in the area is actually the public restroom in the nearby parking lot.
The lighthouse stands partway up the wooded slopes of Motoujina in Minami Ward, Hiroshima City. There is a parking area and public toilet nearby, making it relatively easy to access compared with many remote haunted locations.
According to local rumors, several people are said to have died by suicide from trees near the lighthouse in the past. Some believe these incidents may be connected to the ghost stories surrounding the area.
On the way to the lighthouse, there are also wartime air-raid shelters and the remains of an old university dormitory. Because of this concentration of unsettling places, some people speculate that the whole area may have a particularly strong spiritual atmosphere.
Motoujina is a real coastal area and public space. If you visit, stay on marked paths, do not enter abandoned buildings or air-raid shelters, follow posted rules, and be respectful of local residents and other visitors.
