Hachioji Castle Ruins in Tokyo is often mentioned as one of the capital’s historic haunted sites, with legends tied to the fall of the castle during Japan’s Warring States period.
According to local ghost stories, as the anniversary of the castle’s fall approaches, visitors may hear the sounds of horses and men, gunfire, women screaming, clashing swords, and cries of pain. Other rumors claim that people have seen the severed heads of women or samurai in the area.
The castle is widely believed to have been built by the Hojo clan, a powerful family of Sengoku-era warlords. The haunting legends are said to come from the many people who died when the castle fell, making this a ghost story rooted in the violence of the Warring States period.
The site is located at 3-2735 Motohachiojimachi, Hachioji City, Tokyo. It is a real historic ruin, so visitors should stay on marked paths, respect the area, and avoid going at night or entering restricted places.
