Furusato Green Scenic Area: Saitama’s Rumored “Second Fuji Sea of Trees”

Mysterious Rubber-Like Odor Returns to Kanagawa in 17th Unexplained Incident

English Version

This mixed woodland in Ageo, Saitama, has long carried an unsettling reputation. Although there are walking paths through the area, it is also said to be a place where suicides have occurred repeatedly, and skeletal remains have reportedly been found there in the past.

Because of that reputation, the grove has sometimes been nicknamed the “second Fuji Sea of Trees,” a reference to the infamous forest near Mount Fuji.

There is also a darker story connected to the land itself. According to local rumors, an inheritance dispute once broke out over this woodland, and members of the owner’s family disappeared one after another under mysterious circumstances. Some say the disappearances may have involved murders within the family, though this remains only a rumor.

The site is associated with the area around 2944-5 Haraichi, Ageo City, Saitama Prefecture. If you visit, stay on public paths, avoid entering restricted or private areas, and do not go alone or after dark.
