English Version
The Foreign Cemetery in Funami-cho, Hakodate, Hokkaido, is said to be connected to several ghost stories. Some rumors speak of the spirit of a Russian soldier, while others mention the apparition of a Black man.
One commonly cited theory traces the beginning of these strange stories back to the arrival of Commodore Perry’s fleet in Hakodate. According to this account, two sailors, aged 50 and 19, died while the fleet was in port and were buried in this area. Their burial is often described as the starting point for the unexplained phenomena associated with the site.
