Once known as a sightseeing resort hotel, Aso Kanko Hotel is said to have drawn attention as a destination in the Aso area of Kumamoto. According to local rumors, the hotel eventually closed after its operating company ran into financial trouble.
Since then, the former hotel has become the subject of numerous ghost stories. People claim to have heard a man and woman talking somewhere inside the building, along with strange noises that sound almost otherworldly. Other reports describe hearing someone breathing from behind, suddenly feeling short of breath, or seeing the face of someone who should not have been there.
The building was also said to still be standing even after the major earthquake that struck Kumamoto.
The site is associated with Nagano 2514, Minamiaso Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture. As with any abandoned or privately managed property, do not enter without permission. Conditions may be dangerous, especially in areas affected by earthquakes or long-term neglect.
