Toyota Lake: An Unsettling Haunted Spot in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi

The Sad Urban Legend Behind Pokémon’s Mew, Mewtwo, and Mr. Fuji
目次

English Version

Toyota Lake is said to be one of those places where the fear is less about famous ghost sightings and more about the atmosphere itself.

There do not seem to be many specific reports of paranormal encounters here. Even so, the area has a reputation for feeling strangely oppressive, as if visitors are suddenly overcome by the urge to leave as quickly as possible.

According to local rumor, people who live nearby try not to go close to the lake after dark if they can avoid it.

The location is in the Toyota area of Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, around 122 Oaza Jiyoshi, Toyota-cho. If you visit, go during the day, stay in public areas, and be careful around lakeside roads and mountain paths, especially after sunset.
