Yukiwari Bridge in Nishigo Village, Fukushima, is often mentioned in local ghost stories as one of the prefecture’s better-known haunted spots.
According to rumor, many spirits are said to wander the area, and visitors sometimes claim that ghostly figures appear in photographs taken there. One of the most common stories warns that if you look down from the bridge, something may grab your head and drag you over the edge.
There is also a tale about a phone booth on the way to Yukiwari Bridge. If you see a woman using the phone there, the story says you may be “called” by spirits once you reach the bridge.
Another unusual rumor says that if you honk your car horn in the middle of the bridge late at night and then buy corn potage from a nearby vending machine, the drink inside will have turned bright red, like blood.
Yukiwari Bridge is also said to be one of Fukushima’s most notorious suicide spots. It reportedly became widely known after the head of a local municipality died by jumping from the bridge.
The bridge is located around 499 Tsurubu Yuigahara, Nishigo Village, Nishishirakawa District, Fukushima Prefecture. If you visit, use caution: do not lean over the railing, avoid disturbing local residents, and never enter restricted or unsafe areas.
