Takizawa Pass in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima, is said to have a strange and dangerous roadside legend.
According to the rumor, if you are driving through the pass, a tricycle may suddenly come racing up behind your car at incredible speed. The rider is said to be a little girl. If she overtakes you, the story warns, you may end up in an accident.
The girl on the tricycle is not the only thing people claim may give chase. Some versions of the tale mention an elderly man on a bicycle, while others describe an old woman pushing a baby carriage. Whatever appears behind you, the fear is the same: something impossible is closing in on the winding road.
Takizawa Pass is known for its many curves and complicated stretches of road, so panicking and speeding up would be extremely dangerous. If you visit or drive through the area, stay calm, obey traffic laws, and do not let ghost stories tempt you into unsafe driving.
Even if something seems to startle you from behind, be careful not to press the accelerator too hard.
