Kamafusa Dam in Ono, Kawasaki Town, Shibata District, Miyagi Prefecture, is surrounded by several unsettling rumors.
Locals and visitors have whispered about strange sounds and sightings after midnight: gunshots heard from nowhere, a person standing on the surface of the water, and a car moving even though no one appears to be inside. There is also said to be a stretch of road nearby where vehicles mysteriously fail to pick up speed.
One of the darker rumors claims that a handgun suicide once occurred in the area. Another story says that someone died by self-immolation in the parking lot, and that burn marks remained there for a long time afterward.
As with many haunted-location stories, these accounts are based on rumor and local hearsay. If you visit Kamafusa Dam, stay in public areas, avoid unsafe nighttime exploration, and be especially careful when driving around the dam roads after dark.
