English Version

Fujioka Hospital once stood in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. Today it is an abandoned hospital, and local rumors say that late at night people have heard a voice screaming, “Give back the medical records!” or sobbing sounds coming from the morgue.

This article looks at the short history of Fujioka Hospital, which reportedly opened in 1977 and closed after only about three months, as well as the ghost stories that later became attached to the site.

Please note: the property is now privately owned and off-limits. Do not enter without permission. Trespassing may lead to legal action by the landowner.

A haunted spot in Toyota City, Aichi

Fujioka Hospital is located in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. Because it sits in a mountainous area, access is poor and the location is said to be difficult to find. The reported address is 95 Shimoyashiki, Orihira-cho, Toyota City, Aichi.

Although the surrounding area is rural, the hospital itself stands in a residential district. There are also abandoned houses nearby that are believed to have been connected to people involved with the hospital at the time.

The entrance is now locked and the site cannot be entered. In the past, however, people were apparently able to get inside, and the interior is said to have been covered with graffiti in many places.

The history of Fujioka Hospital: why did it close?

Fujioka Hospital reportedly opened in 1977. However, it is said to have gone out of business after only about three months.

According to the commonly told account, a man named Okamura, who had originally been the director of a hospital called Kohoku Hospital, bought and sold mountain land as a tax measure. Because the land was not properly maintained, nearby residents reportedly complained often.

This is said to have led Okamura to open Fujioka Hospital in February 1977. However, the hospital’s location was inconvenient, and Okamura apparently judged that it would not be profitable. He appointed a doctor over the age of 80 as acting director.

The hospital also hired three nurses who had been away from clinical work for more than five years. Despite these efforts, the business did not improve, and the hospital is believed to have closed after only three months.

Was it still operating around 1979?

Fujioka Hospital is generally said to have opened in 1977 and closed three months later, but some sources claim it may still have been operating around 1979.

For that reason, the exact date of closure is unclear. Still, considering the poor access and the building’s current state of decay, it is unlikely that the hospital operated for very long.

Rumored paranormal activity at Fujioka Hospital

Many ghost stories have been told about Fujioka Hospital. Among the most common rumors are that visitors hear sobbing voices, or that if someone takes away a medical chart found on the floor, they later receive a phone call saying, “Return the medical records!”

However, the hospital’s original records and equipment have reportedly all been removed, and many of the rooms are now badly deteriorated. Because of this, the truth behind these stories is unknown.

There also does not seem to be much reliable information from people who actually visited the site and experienced something paranormal. Some believe the rumors may have grown simply because an abandoned hospital is such an unsettling image.

Did anyone die at the hospital?

There are rumors that the spirits of people who died at Fujioka Hospital appear there, but according to the available accounts, no one died during the roughly three months it was in operation.

The building was equipped with inpatient facilities and X-ray equipment, but because there were so few patients, those facilities were apparently used only a handful of times.

There is also no known information about any incident occurring inside or near the hospital. As a result, it remains unclear how the ghost stories became connected to the site.

The property is off-limits

Fujioka Hospital stands on private property, and entry is prohibited. The site is now securely locked, and unauthorized entry may result in legal action by the owner.

At one point, nearby residents were reportedly taking turns watching for trespassers, and police patrols in the area are said to have increased. In recent years, disputes between people entering abandoned buildings and landowners have become more common in Japan.

Do not attempt to enter the property without permission.

Rumors about the landowner

Some online rumors claim that the land is owned by an antisocial group. However, the source of this information is unclear, and it is generally considered an unverified rumor with no solid basis.
