Sandanbeki, in Shirahama Town, Wakayama Prefecture, is a dramatic coastal cliff area that rises more than 50 meters above the sea. It is also a well-known tourist destination, famous for its sheer rock walls and ocean views.
At the same time, Sandanbeki has a darker reputation. It is often described as a notorious suicide spot, with some accounts claiming that as many as ten people die there by suicide each year.
Visitors and rumor sites have reported a number of strange experiences around the cliffs. Some say they felt as if they were being pulled or dragged toward the edge. Others claim that spirit photographs are unusually easy to capture in the area.
Because suicide is sometimes believed to make it difficult for a spirit to pass on, one local explanation is that many restless spirits remain at Sandanbeki. According to the darker rumors, these spirits may be lingering out of attachment to the world, or because their resentment is too strong to fade. Some stories even suggest that these gathered spirits lure more people toward the bottom of the cliffs.
Whether taken as folklore, rumor, or a warning shaped by the site’s tragic history, Sandanbeki is a place where the beauty of the sea and the fear of the cliff edge are closely intertwined.

崖付近で引きずり込まれる感覚になる、心霊写真が撮れまくるなど多数の奇妙な現象が報告されている模様。年間10人もの自殺者が出ると言う最強の自殺の名所。高さ50m以上にも及ぶ断崖絶壁。観光地でもあるが自殺の名所としても有名。自殺では成仏が難しいのだろうか、数多くの成仏できない浮遊霊たちが、この世への未練を残してか、怨念があまりにも強すぎるからなのか、この場所に多くの霊が集まり、さらなる自殺者志願者を崖の下まで導いている、とでも言うのだろうか。
