English Version

Lake Shikaribetsu in Shikaoi, Hokkaido, is surrounded by quiet mountain scenery, but it also carries a darker local reputation.

According to rumor, the spirits of people who died by suicide have been seen wandering around the lake late at night. Some accounts even describe hands reaching up from the surface of the water.

Locally, the lake is said to be known as a place associated with suicides. There is also a grim rumor that anyone who throws themselves into Lake Shikaribetsu never rises to the surface again.

The area is located around Kitaurimaku, Shikaoi Town, Kato District, Hokkaido, along the Pearl Skyline. If you visit, go during safe conditions, respect local rules, and avoid approaching the water or remote areas at night.
