In Tokushima Prefecture, there is a haunted spot rumored to be a place where ghost photos are almost guaranteed: Hotel New Naruto.
The area around the site is surprisingly scenic. In seasons when Tokushima’s weather is mild, the Naruto Skyline is known as a pleasant driving and touring route. Along that same road stands the abandoned Hotel New Naruto, a ruin that has become famous among local ghost-spot enthusiasts.
The Naruto Skyline is now part of Tokushima Prefectural Route 183. It was once operated as a toll road, but traffic was reportedly too low for it to function successfully that way, so it is now free to use as a prefectural road. Because of that, the area is relatively easy to reach by car. It is only speculation, but the low traffic may also have made it difficult for businesses along the road to attract customers, possibly contributing to the closure of Hotel New Naruto.
What Remains at Hotel New Naruto
The site is said to consist of four structures, including an outdoor restroom. The main building is commonly described as a hotel, but in its operating days it was reportedly more than that: it also functioned as a drive-in, restaurant, and souvenir shop.
The building included both aboveground and underground areas. The fifth-floor section is said to have once been a restaurant, but after years without proper maintenance, the deterioration is severe. Only parts of the steel frame remain, and little of the old restaurant atmosphere can be felt today.
The hotel portion of the building is said to remain more clearly, with traces of its former use still visible in places such as the kitchen, toilets, and guest rooms. That lingering hotel atmosphere is part of what gives the ruin its unsettling reputation.
Rumors and Ghost Stories
One rumor claims that a fire occurred at the hotel, leading to financial trouble, and that the owner later died by suicide. This story is often cited as one reason the site became known as a haunted place.
Visitors and ghost-story fans have also claimed that many strange photos can be taken there, including images with orbs. There are also repeated reports of sightings of the spirit of a woman said to have died by suicide. As with many haunted-location stories, these accounts should be treated as rumors rather than confirmed facts.
Visiting Safely
Because the site is located along a prefectural road, it is easy to approach by car compared with many remote abandoned places. However, Hotel New Naruto is an abandoned structure and may be dangerous, unstable, or private property. Do not enter buildings, climb structures, or trespass without permission. If you go to the area, view it safely from legal public spaces, respect local rules, and avoid night visits or unsafe behavior.

以前は徳島県の有料道路として位置づけされていたのですが、通行量が確保できず、徳島県の有料道路として機能しなかったため、現在では徳島県道として無料通行が可能となっています。このことから、心霊スポットへも行きやすいと言えるでしょう。推測になりますが、通行量が少なかったことから集客が見込めずに、徳島県の鳴門スカイライン沿いのホテルニュー鳴門についても廃業せざるをえなくなったのかもしれません。徳島の心霊スポット、ホテルニュー鳴門の中は・・・。心霊スポットであるホテルニュー鳴門の敷地内の構成は、屋外トイレも含めて四つの建造物で構成されています。
主となる心霊スポットである建造物は、ホテルでとして位置付けられていますが、当時の利用目的施設としてはホテルだけではなく、ドライブインやレストラン、おみやげ購入店舗も併設されている施設として機能していました。この建造物は、地上だけでなく地下も含めて構成されています。5階に位置する部分については、当時はレストランであったと言われていますが、建造物としては長期間維持管理されていなかったことから経年劣化が著しく、鉄骨の一部のみが現存するだけで当時がレストランであったことを伺わせる雰囲気は全くありません。
心霊スポットであるホテルの機能を備えた建造物はしっかりと残っており、こちらも中を探索することが可能です。このホテルにおいては火事が起こり、それを起因として経営難となってしまったことから経営者が自殺したとの噂もあります。これが、心霊スポットとして有名にしている所以です。ここで、大量の心霊写真が撮影できるとのことです。オーブもしかりですし、自殺した女性の霊も目撃情報が多発しています。厨房やトイレ、客室などのホテルの面影が色濃く残っている建造物となっていますので、非常に雰囲気としては怖いものとなっています。
心霊スポットの立地条件としては、徳島県道沿いと言うこともあり建造物の直近まで車で行くことが可能であるため、アクセスは非常にしやすいと言えるでしょう。廃墟と化したホテルでの心霊スポットとして有名ですので、興味のある方は自己責任の名のもとに訪れてみては如何でしょうか。
