Satanism. Devil worship. The idea of rejecting God and placing the devil at the center of faith is unsettling enough on its own. But what if an object linked to that kind of belief appeared not in some abandoned ruin, but on land connected to royalty?
In 2018, a strange stone slab was reportedly discovered among ruins in Holyrood Park in Edinburgh, a place with deep ties to Scotland’s royal history. Some saw it as possible evidence of a dark ritual. Others treated it as an unexplained occult-looking object. Either way, the image carved into the stone was difficult to ignore.
Holyrood Park and Its Royal Connections
Holyrood Park is one of Edinburgh’s most famous historic landscapes. The story of the site’s royal connection is often traced back to 1128, when King David I of Scotland established Holyrood. A guesthouse built on the grounds later developed into the far grander Palace of Holyroodhouse.
From the 16th century onward, the palace served as a residence for Scottish kings and queens. In modern times, it has also been used by the British monarch, including Queen Elizabeth II. In other words, this is not just an ordinary park. It is land wrapped in royal history.
And according to the reports, this is where the mysterious carving was found.
The Inverted Pentagram
The object was a stone slab carved with what appeared to be an inverted pentagram. Even to someone unfamiliar with occult symbolism, the design had a disturbing atmosphere.
A post shared by writer Mark Rees described it this way: “It depicted two figures – a male with horns and a female in a surrender pose – set in a pentagram. The pentagram is a recognised symbol of paganism and also used in devil worship.”
Looking at the reported description, the large upside-down pentagram is the first thing that stands out. At its center is what seems to be a horned male figure. Beneath him is a figure that appears female, suggested by the shape of the chest, hanging limply with an expression of suffering, as if pinned down or overpowered by the horned being.
It is a deeply unpleasant motif.
The Stone That Vanished
The mystery did not end with the discovery.
The slab was reportedly found by a local ranger, one of the people responsible for watching over and maintaining the royal-associated grounds. According to the story, the ranger noticed signs that someone had unnaturally dug up the area and, while investigating, came across the stone.
The ranger then contacted archaeologists. But before the specialists could arrive, the slab is said to have disappeared without a trace.
That left only questions behind.
Devil Worship—or Something Else?
The inverted pentagram is often associated in modern occult imagery with the devil. It also appears on the Devil card in many tarot decks, which is why some people quickly connected the Holyrood stone to Satanism or devil worship.
Still, symbols can have different meanings depending on context. A pentagram may also appear in pagan, magical, or decorative traditions, and without the original stone available for proper study, no firm conclusion can be made.
Even so, the imagery described on the slab is hard to dismiss as harmless decoration.
The Stag-Headed Figure
The central figure was described as a horned or animal-headed male. Devils and demons have often been depicted with the heads or horns of animals. Baphomet, a figure commonly associated with black mass imagery, is often shown with the head of a goat. The Minotaur of Greek myth has the head of a bull.
In this case, the head was said to resemble a deer or stag. That has led some to compare the figure to Furfur, a demon from old demonological traditions. Furfur is described as a powerful Great Earl of Hell, ranked 34th in the infernal hierarchy and said to command 26 legions.
If that interpretation is correct, the figure on the stone would not be merely frightening. It would be explicitly demonic.
The Woman Beneath
Below the horned figure was the female-looking figure, shown as if subdued or oppressed. Her arms were said to hang loosely, giving the impression of suffering.
Some have speculated that, if the carving truly was connected to devil worship, the woman may have been intended to represent the Virgin Mary. That is only speculation, but within an anti-Christian symbolic framework, it is not an impossible interpretation.
Who Took the Stone?
If the slab really showed an inverted pentagram, a horned demon-like figure, and a suffering woman, it would have been an important object for researchers to examine. Yet it reportedly vanished before experts could study it.
Was it a modern prank? A ritual object? A piece of art? Something older? Or was it removed because someone did not want its meaning investigated?
There is no clear answer. With the stone gone, the details remain buried in darkness.
For travelers, Holyrood Park is a real and popular destination, but it is also a protected historic landscape with rugged terrain. Stay on official paths, respect closures, do not dig or disturb ruins, and never enter restricted areas in search of legends.

そこで見つかったのは、まさにまがまがしいの一言で表現したくなるような一枚の石板でした。英国王室もゆかりあるホリールード・パーク。1 128年スコットランド王デヴィッド1世によって作られたホリールード・パーク。。敷地内にたてられた迎賓館は、そののちさらに立派な王宮へと変貌を遂げ、16世紀以降はスコットランド王夫妻の居城として存在していました。その名もホリールードハウス宮殿。そして、現在そのホリールードハウス宮殿を使っているのは、イギリス王である女王エリザベス2世。

— Mark Rees (@reviewwales) June 22, 2019 。その意味を知らない人が見ても、どこかまがまがしさを感じるものですが、その意味を知るものがみればそれは驚愕としか言いようのない代物です。まずはその様子を検察すると、大きな逆五芒星が目につくはずです。そしてその真ん中には角の生えた男性らしき人物が見えます。そして、その下には、胸の膨らみから女性と思しき人物が、まるで角の生えた男性に組み敷かれるように苦悶の表情を浮かべ垂れ下がるように描かれています。
正直、気持ちの悪いモチーフですね。消えた謎の石板。しかもこの石板については、その後さらに不思議なことが起こります。発見したのは地元のレンジャー。王室ゆかりの地を警備および管理をしている人間で、不自然に人間が掘り返した後を捜索した結果この石板を発見したということですが、実はこの石板この直後忽然と姿を消します。しかも、レンジャーが考古学者に連絡し、その専門家が到着するわずかの間に、です。そして、謎だけが残されました。悪魔崇拝か？逆五芒星の意味。
。謎だけを残して消えた逆五芒星、それはまがまがしい信仰の対象なのです。悪魔のしるし逆五芒星。皆さんおなじみのタロットカード。。じつはこのタロットカードの中にある悪魔のカードには、この石板と同じく逆五芒星が描かれているんですね。そう、つまり逆五芒星とは悪魔を象徴する印なんです。そのことから、これは悪魔信仰の対象ではないかと考えられているのです。鹿の頭の男。悪魔の姿は草食動物の頭を持った人間として書かれることが多いのはご存知でしょう。黒ミサをつかさどるといわれる悪魔バフォメットはその頭部を黒ヤギの形として書かれますし、ギリシャ神話の怪物ミノタウロスは頭が牛ですよね。
。そしてこの石板の中心、そこには鹿と思しき頭を持った人物がいます。そんな鹿の頭を持った悪魔、そう、それこそフュルフュール、26の軍団を率いて戦う悪魔の将軍のひとりで地獄における序列も34番と高い地獄の大伯爵。。まさに悪魔そのものです。組み敷かれた女性。そして、その下に描かれている組み敷かれているような女性。もちろんその詳細はわかりませんが、だらりと垂れた腕から虐げられていることははっきりとわかります。もしかするとこの人は、 聖母マリア 。
悪魔信仰であるなら、十分考えられる線です。石板は誰が持ち去ったのか。。悪魔信仰と王室の関係をうかがわせる石板。。しかし、その石板が消失したことで、詳細は永久に闇に葬られることとなりました。では、この石板を闇に葬ったのは誰なのか。。余計な憶測はしませんが、その関係が明らかになっては困る人たちであることだけは、間違いないはずです
