A mystery circle, more commonly known in English as a crop circle, is a phenomenon in which crops in a field are flattened into a circular shape. Sometimes the pattern is a simple circle. Other times, multiple circles overlap, or the design becomes far more complex.
These strange formations have been reported around the world, especially in the United Kingdom. Proposed explanations range from UFO landings and plasma phenomena to unusual weather. In recent years, the hoax theory has become the most widely accepted explanation, but some cases are still said to include details that are difficult to explain as a simple prank.
Clues Left at the Scene
At places believed by some to be UFO landing sites, several kinds of “clues” are often mentioned: traces of radiation, unusual crop shapes, and eyewitness reports from the surrounding area.
Some reports claim that radiation has been detected at crop circle sites, though results may vary depending on the local environment.
The shape of the crops is another point often discussed. In obvious hoaxes, plants may simply be crushed underfoot. But in cases described by believers as “real” mystery circles, the crops are said to be bent or woven in strange ways, sometimes almost like braids.
Eyewitness Stories Around Crop Circles
There are also reports of mysterious white flying objects seen near crop circles. Some videos have been circulated, but because the image quality is often poor, it can be hard to tell whether they show something genuine or something staged. For that reason, many of these videos are considered low in reliability.
Local witnesses have sometimes claimed that a crop circle appeared “in just a few seconds.” Stories like these helped fuel the idea that something beyond ordinary human activity might be involved.
Possible Explanations
One popular theory is that crop circles are messages left on Earth by extraterrestrials. Another is that they are marks created when UFOs landed in fields. This idea likely grew from the many reports of unidentified flying objects near mystery circle sites.
There is also the plasma theory. Plasma is often described as the fourth state of matter after solids, liquids, and gases. It forms when gas is heated and becomes ionized, containing charged particles. Plasma exists widely in nature: the sun, auroras, and lightning are all examples, and it is often said that much of the visible universe is made of plasma.
Some scientists have proposed that plasma could create crop circles. However, because many crop circle sites do not show burn marks or other signs of heat damage, this theory leaves many questions unanswered.
Another idea is the microburst theory. A microburst is a sudden, powerful downdraft from a rapidly developing thundercloud, capable of producing destructive winds near the ground. In this theory, strong winds flatten crops and create circular patterns. Microbursts are often discussed as a type of downburst occurring over a relatively limited area, around 4 kilometers in scale.
A Mystery Circle in Japan
Japan has also had its own mysterious circular pattern.
In December 2018, a strange circle-like formation was found in Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture. The site was an Obi cedar plantation created for research into Obi cedar, one of Miyazaki’s specialty products.
The trees had been planted in a circular pattern as part of an experiment, with the planting density changing from the center toward the outside. The denser trees grew lower, while the less dense trees became taller toward the outer edge, forming a beautiful circular design.
This was not a crop circle made by flattened plants in a field. Even so, it became a topic of fascination across Japan as an example of natural beauty and the mystery of growth patterns in nature.
If you visit places connected to unusual formations, remember that fields, plantations, and research forests may be private or restricted property. View only from public areas, follow local rules, and never enter farmland or forest sites without permission.
Final Thoughts
Mystery circles have been reported many times, including in Japan. Many are rumored or proven to be man-made, but some are still said to contain features that are difficult to reproduce or explain.
Perhaps they are only elaborate human creations. Or perhaps, as some people still wonder, they really are the work of something from beyond Earth.

ミステリーサークルとは、田畑で栽培されている作物などが円形状（サークル形）に倒される現象です。あるいは倒された跡。他にも円が複雑に重なり合った形状や、さらに複雑な形状のものもあります。イギリス（英国）を中心に世界中で報告されている謎の現象です。原因としてあげられるのは UFO 着陸説、プラズマ説、気象説と様々です。最近は、いたずら説が一番有力な説ですが、いたずらでは到底説明のつかないこともたくさん明らかになっているのです。今回はそんなミステリーサークルの謎について迫っていきたいと思います。
ミステリーサークルができた後の現場の様子。。UFOが着陸したと思われる現場にはある手がかりが残されています。放射線の検出 作物の形 ミステリーサークル周辺に目撃情報 放射線の検出。その土地の環境によって変わりますが、放射線が検出されているそうです。作物の形。いたずら説も挙げられますが、いたずらで作成されたミステリーサークルはただ単に植物が踏み倒されただけですが、本物のミステリーサークルは、作物が三つ編み上に織り込まれていたりと不思議な現象が起きるそうです。
ミステリーサークル周辺に目撃情報。白い謎の飛行物体らしきものも目撃されることがあるそうです。中にはビデオがとられたものもありますが、画質の粗さから作られたものなのか本物なのかと見分けがつかないため信憑性の低いものになっています。近隣住民の目撃情報では、「数秒で作られた」といった目撃情報なども寄せられています。発生した理由として考えられるもの。。宇宙人のメッセージ説。ミステリーサークルは 宇宙人が地球に残していった何かのメッセージ なのではないかという説です。
あるいは、宇宙人が乗っていた UFO が着陸した際にできた跡ではないのかという説もあります。ミステリーサークル周辺でUFOなどの未確認飛行物体の目撃情報が多かった ことからこの説が生まれたと考えられます。プラズマ説。プラズマとは固体・液体・気体に続く第 4 の物質で、温度上昇にとって気体が原子になり、温度が上がるにつれて原子から電子が離れることによって生じる荷電粒子を含む気体のことです。自然にも多く存在していて、太陽をはじめとする、オーロラや稲妻などはプラズマであり、宇宙から構成される物質の約 99 ％がプラズマと言われています。
プラズマによってミステリーサークルが作られたという説を提唱した科学者がいましたが、 ミステリーサークル周辺には燃えた痕跡等もないことから、この説には多くの疑問が残される 形になりました。マイクロバースト説。マイクロバーストとは、急激に発達した積乱雲などが、地面を吹き付け破壊的な強風を巻き起こす気流の現象です。ダウンバーストのうち、空間規模が４ km 以上のものをマイクロバーストと呼びます。マイクロバーストによって、農作物などがなぎ倒され、ミステリーサークルが作られた という説です。
日本にもあったミステリーサークル！。。2018 年１２月に宮崎県日南市に不思議な円形模様のミステリーサークルアが発見されました。発見された場所は、宮崎県の特産品飫肥杉（おびすぎ）を調査する目的として作られた飫肥杉植林場です。杉を円形に植林し、中心から外に向かうにつれて密度を変える実験をしていた場所です。密度の高い木は低く、密度の低い木は外周に向かうほど高くなるという美しい円形を描いています。こちらは、畑の作物などが倒されてできたミステリーサークルではありませんが、自然の美しさや自然の神秘を感じられると日本中で話題になりました。
まとめ。日本でもかなり発見の報告がされているミステリーサークルです。人の手で作られたと噂されていますが、中には人の手で作れないものや説明のつかないものも残されているのも事実です。もしかしたら、本当に地球外生命体の仕業なのかもしれませんね
