Kyowa Pass is a low mountain pass in Daisen City, Akita Prefecture, along the old Ushu Kaido road. Despite its modest elevation of about 20 meters, it is known as one of the more difficult points on National Route 13.
Several rumors are connected to the pass. Some drivers say they feel an unexplained chill when passing through at night. Others claim that after driving the road, the back seat of their car was somehow wet. There is also a story that something like white smoke can be seen coming from trains on the Ou Main Line, which runs alongside the area.
The details behind these stories are unclear, and they remain local rumors rather than confirmed accounts. If you visit or drive through the area, use normal caution, especially at night, and do not stop in unsafe places or enter restricted railway property.
