Hitotsumori Park in Akita: Ghost Stories Around the Cemetery and Closed Tunnel

English Version

Hitotsumori Park, located around 24-6 Narayama Ishizukamachi in Akita City, Akita Prefecture, is known in local rumor as a place where spirits are often seen, especially around the park itself and the nearby cemetery area.

The site is described as a cemetery park, which may be one reason it has attracted so many ghost stories over time.

Another part of the legend centers on a tunnel that is now closed. According to local accounts, at least two people are said to have died by suicide there. There is also a story that an elderly person died in the area, and that a doll was reportedly found together with the body.

As with many haunted places in Japan, the details are based on rumor and local storytelling rather than confirmed public records. If you visit, stay in public areas, respect the cemetery, and never enter closed tunnels or restricted spaces.
