SSS is often described as one of the most dangerous haunted spots in Okinawa. That alone is probably a good reason not to go, but if you are already in Okinawa, it is easy to understand the temptation to see it for yourself. For many horror fans, that nervous mix of fear and excitement is exactly what makes haunted locations so hard to resist.
That said, if you ever consider visiting a place like this, only go where access is legal and safe, respect local sacred sites and private property, and do not enter restricted or dangerous areas.
Visiting SSS in Okinawa
When I actually went to SSS, it felt less like a typical haunted spot and more like the remains of an old village.
There were several old house sites. Farther in, a long staircase led downward. At the bottom, there was a small stream, a bridge, and a small shrine-like structure. Although the site is only a short distance in from the national road, it was extremely quiet and had a faintly eerie atmosphere.
It is not deep in the forest, exactly, but the entrance already feels unsettling. Once inside, there is a mysterious pavilion-like structure, and beyond that, the descending stairs appear.
The strangest part was the temperature. As soon as I went down the stairs, the air changed all at once. It did not gradually become cooler. It suddenly felt cold, almost as if I had stepped into a different place.
The Sudden Chill
SSS is not called one of Okinawa’s strongest haunted spots for nothing. At one particular point, the air seemed to turn cold in an instant. That was when I felt that this place might really be dangerous in some way.
According to local stories, many people begin to feel physically unwell around this area. Even so, I continued farther in.
Eventually, I reached what looked like the end of the path: a small stream and something like a small stone monument. Unfortunately, I could not go any deeper from there.
SSS is treated by many as a truly serious haunted location in Okinawa. There are stories about people who went all the way in as a joke, then later experienced auditory hallucinations or mental distress and ended up receiving medical treatment. Others who say they are spiritually sensitive reportedly experience ringing in the ears, headaches, or vomiting.
There are even rumors that some spiritual mediums lost their lives while training there. Whether or not you believe those stories, SSS is considered an especially intense place in Okinawa, and it does not seem like the kind of spot to visit casually.
Why Is It Called SSS?
There are many haunted places in Japan, but the name SSS is unusual. The exact origin is unclear.
Some say it is because there are three utaki, or Okinawan sacred sites, in the area. Others say it comes from three S-shaped curves in the road, or from three mountains nearby. None of these explanations seems to be confirmed.
People who have visited SSS and claim to have spiritual sensitivity often say they felt something there or became physically unwell. Even without any spiritual sensitivity, I could feel that Okinawa’s SSS was different from other places: the ringing in the ears, the strange temperature shift, and the atmosphere all stood out.
If you are interested in haunted locations in Okinawa, approach them with respect and caution. Do not treat sacred or abandoned places as playgrounds, and avoid entering anywhere unsafe, restricted, or private.

沖縄の心霊スポットのなかでも１、２を争うほどヤバイと言われている場所なので、やっぱりいかない方がいいのですが、沖縄に来たのだから実際に行ってみたくなってしまうのですよね。このどきどきワクワクが心霊スポットのたまらないところという人もたくさんいると思います。沖縄に観光に行って時間がある人で興味があるなら心霊スポットへ行ってみるのもいいかもしれません。実際に沖縄のスリーエスに行ってみた！。実際に沖縄のSSSに行って見ると心霊スポットというよりかは昔の集落の跡のような感じでした。
屋敷跡がいくつかあり、先の方へ入っていくと下の方へ降りていく長い階段があり、階段を下っていくと小川があり、橋があって、祠がありました。国道から少し中に入っただけなのですが、とても静かですこし不気味な感じがする場所です。森の中といってもすごく深い場所ではありません。入り口からやばいのですが、入ると謎の東屋みたいなものがあり、さらに進むと下る階段が出てきます。この階段を下ると一気に気温が変わります。それは、もう別の場所のようにです。少しずつ変わっていくというのはではなく、一気にひやっとするのですよね。
流石、沖縄いちの心霊スポットと言われるだけありますね。ある一点からすっと寒くなります。これは、さすがにやばいところなんだとその時に感じました。このあたりで体調がおかしくなったりする人が多発するようですが、さらに奥へ行ってきました。そして、ほとりのような小川と小さな石碑のようなものがあり、そこがどうやら終点みたいです。残念ながら、これ以上は奥へすすめませんでした・・・。本当の心霊スポットである沖縄のスリーエス。沖縄の心霊スポットですが、冗談半分で最後まで行き、幻聴や精神の異常を起こし病院に通っている人、霊感があるなら耳鳴り、頭痛や嘔吐をしてしまう人もいるそうです。
霊媒師ですら修行中に命を落としてしまう人もいるらしいので、遊び半分でいくと大変なことになってしまうかもしれません。沖縄の中でもかなり強烈なところなので、もし行くなら、ちゃんと準備をしてから行った方がよさそうですね。心霊スポットは遊び半分でいく場所ではないのかもしれません。心霊スポットといってもたくさんありますが、名前がSSSというのは変わっていると思いませんか？。はっきりとした由来は分かっていませんが、御嶽が3つあるから、道のS字カーブが三箇所あるから、山が3つあるからなどと言われています。
