English Version
Old Zenba Tunnel in Zenba, Hadano City, Kanagawa, is said to be known for sightings of a human-like figure that suddenly jumps out toward passing cars.
The rumor became especially famous because of a sign placed in front of the tunnel that reads, “Don’t die anymore, Junichi.” A small Jizo statue was also erected nearby.
According to the story, the apparition is the spirit of a young boy who died in a traffic accident. The sign is also said to carry a wish that such a tragic accident never happen again—but whether that is the whole truth remains part of the tunnel’s unsettling reputation.
If you visit, treat the area as an active road: do not stop inside the tunnel, block traffic, trespass, or disturb local residents. Go only where it is legal and safe to do so.
