During World War II, Nazi Germany stood at the cutting edge of modern military and political power. At the same time, it has long been said that Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, and others close to the regime were drawn to occultism, mysticism, and secret teachings.
Some theories even claim that, because of Nazi political policy, occult ideas became something of a nationwide boom in Germany. Whatever the truth, the fields Nazi Germany studied as tools for influencing the public are often said to have included magic and astrology.
This article does not focus on weapons or battlefield strategy. Instead, it looks at the magicians and astrologers who are said to have worked behind the scenes during the same era.
Magicians and Astrologers Behind the War
Among the countries involved in World War II, the two most strongly associated with occult interests in this kind of lore were Britain and Nazi Germany.
Britain, fearing a Nazi invasion, reportedly turned to astrologers to help analyze German strategy. Germany, too, had an astrologer praised as a genius.
Although Britain and the United States were both Allied powers, Britain’s geography made the threat feel immediate. Nazi influence had already reached France, leaving Britain as a target just across the Channel.
In occult histories and rumors surrounding the period, the Nazi movement is often connected to the Thule Society, described as a group of mystics. Britain, meanwhile, had Aleister Crowley, one of the most famous magicians of the modern age. Looking at this background, the occult side of the war begins to come into view.
Aleister Crowley
On the British side, Aleister Crowley is often named as a representative figure of black magic and occultism.
According to one story, he was the person who taught Prime Minister Winston Churchill the “V sign,” and he is also said to have been used by British military intelligence. Crowley belonged to the famous magical order known as the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and he reportedly described himself as a figure who brought destruction.
Karl Ernst Krafft and Hitler
On the German side, the astrologer known as the greatest in Germany at the time was Karl Ernst Krafft. Even Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Germany’s leading propaganda minister, is said to have acknowledged his abilities.
Because of Krafft’s supposedly astonishing powers of astrological prediction and his influence, he was brought into military circles. There, he is said to have helped plan public propaganda and invasion strategies from an astrological point of view.
However, Krafft’s own predictions reportedly began to point toward Germany’s defeat.
At first, Nazi leaders relied on him. But when his prophecy suggested that Germany would lose, that prediction itself was treated as a crime. Around 1941, by direct order from Hitler, Krafft and other astrologers were suppressed. Krafft died at the young age of 44 while being transported to a concentration camp.
Before his death, he reportedly condemned Germany’s actions as disgraceful and left behind a curse-like prediction:
“British bombs will rain down on the German Propaganda Ministry.”
Meanwhile, Britain is said to have had not only the magician Aleister Crowley, but also the brilliant astrologer Louis de Wohl attached to military circles. According to this account, de Wohl was able to read and anticipate the movements of the German army as interpreted through Krafft’s astrology.
Was Britain Fighting an Occult War Against Germany?
In the end, it is impossible to say whether Louis de Wohl’s work truly changed the course of the war. What is certain is that Nazi Germany never succeeded in landing in Britain.
More than that, the military future Krafft predicted for Nazi Germany came true in a grim way. Berlin eventually fell, and Germany was defeated.
If Hitler and the Nazi leadership had listened to Karl Ernst Krafft’s warnings, perhaps the outcome of World War II might have been different.

第二次世界大戦の時代、いわゆる近代史において当時の最先端を走ったナチス・ドイツ。しかし、その一方で総統である ヒトラーや腹心のヒムラーなどは神秘学や秘術といったオカルティズムにも傾倒していた という。実際には、 ナチスの政治方針から国内中でオカルトが一大ブームになっていたという説 もある。いすれにしてもナチス・ドイツが大衆を操るために研究した分野の中には 魔術 や 占星術 も含まれていたのだ。ここでは兵器戦争ではなく 占星術や魔術師として同時代に活躍した人物を紹介 していこう。

。。なぜならナチス・ドイツの勢力圏はフランスにも及んでおり、イギリスはすでに 対岸の標的 になっていたのだ。ナチスの政権はそもそも『 トゥーレ協会 』という「 神秘主義者」の集まり であったし、イギリスには 高名な魔術師であるアレイスター・クロウリー が存在していた。こういった背景を見ると、ナチスのオカルティズムの裏側が少しずつ見えてくる。アレイスター・クロウリー。。画像引用元： アレイスター・クロウリー 。イギリス側で黒魔術の代表的な人物として挙げられるのは アレイスター・クロウリー である。
彼は一説によればチャーチル首相に「ピースサイン」を教えた人物であり、イギリス軍情報部に起用されていたという。金色の夜明け団という有名な魔術師グループに所属しており、自分を破壊をもたらすものだと主張していたと言われている。。カール・エルンスト・クラフトとヒトラー。。ナチス・ドイツ最高の宣伝相であったゲッベルスも認めた、当時のドイツで最高の占星術師として知られていたのが カール・エルンスト・クラフト である。驚異的な占星術による予知能力、そしてその影響力の大きさから軍に引き上げられ、 大衆のプロパガンダや占星術から見た侵攻作戦などを立案していた。
。しかし、彼自身の予言ではドイツの敗北を示唆する結果が出てしまったのだ。。これによって最初はナチス・ドイツの最高幹部にも頼られたカール・エルンスト・クラフトだったが、自身が予言した ドイツの敗北を示唆した ことを罪とみなされ、1941年頃にヒトラー直属の指令によって他の占星術達と共に弾圧され、 44歳の若さで収容所送りの途中に死亡 してしまう。。彼はこのドイツの行為を卑しいものだとした上で死の間際に。「ドイツの宣伝省の上にはイギリスの爆弾が雨のように降るだろう」 。
という呪いのような予言を残している。一方、イギリス側には魔術師アレイスター・クロウリーをはじめ、 ルイ・ド・ウォールという天才占星術師が軍部についており、 カールの占星術によるドイツ軍の行動は見破られていた という。イギリス対ドイツはオカルト戦争をしていた？！。。結果的に、ルイ・ド・ヴォールの功績かどうかは判断出来ないが、 ついにナチス・ドイツはイギリスに上陸することがなかった。。それどころか、カールが予言したナチスの軍事的な予言は的中し、最終的にはベルリンが陥落したことによって敗北に至るのである。
もしもカール・エルンスト・クラフトの助言をヒトラー達が聞き入れていれば、 第二次大戦の結果は変わっていたのかも知れない
