I only learned this recently, but it seems my wife still has a kind of spiritual sensitivity.
My wife and I are now in our late 40s. When we first got married, she often told me stories about being able to see spirits. But after our child was born, I had assumed that ability had faded away.
Then, the other day, she said quietly:
“Actually… I can still see them just like before.”
According to my wife, she stopped talking about it—even to me—because our eldest daughter, who is now in junior high school, might become frightened if she knew. That conversation led her to tell me about things she has seen and felt at her workplace.
The Black Shadow Sitting in a Reclining Chair
At my wife’s workplace, there are several reclining chairs used by people with physical disabilities. They are chairs with backs that can be tilted backward, and some are attached to beds. In shared rooms, there are multiple chairs like this, and they are very useful for elderly residents or people who need help sitting upright.
One day, my wife was chatting with a resident in a shared room where one of these reclining chairs was being used.
As they talked, she suddenly sensed something.
She glanced over at the empty reclining chair beside them—and there, she says, was something like a black human-shaped shadow sitting in it.
Of course, the resident she was talking with noticed nothing.
My wife continued the conversation as if nothing had happened. But while they were chatting, the black shadow-like figure moved from one empty reclining chair to another. At one point, it even seemed to sit on top of the resident she was speaking with.
According to my wife, it felt like it was “teasing” or “mocking” her.
She had the impression that the thing knew she could see or sense spirits, and that it was deliberately trying to provoke her. But reacting to it would have been exactly what it wanted. So she pretended not to notice and continued as normal.
After that, however, the resident my wife had been talking with passed away.
The cause was said to be old age, but still…
Three Glowing Figures in a Hospital Room
Not everything my wife sees or feels is frightening.
At her workplace, there is an elderly woman she often speaks with. My wife describes her as extremely refined, kind, and virtuous—a gentle person who treats everyone well and is liked by everyone. She is still alive today.
Whenever my wife visits this woman’s private room, she says there are always three glowing figures there.
She cannot tell whether they are male or female. But they shine with a sparkling light, appear whitish, and have human-like forms. They are always near the woman.
My wife believes these three glowing figures are probably the woman’s guardian spirits. Perhaps they are ancestors, or perhaps people who were close to her in life. In any case, my wife says they seem to be protecting her.
“Aren’t You Scared?”
My wife has had many experiences like this, and even now she can apparently see and sense spiritual things.
I cannot help wondering: isn’t she afraid?
If it were me, I think I would be so unsettled I could hardly function.
After hearing several of her stories, I asked her honestly:
“You see and sense spirits, right? Doesn’t that scare you?”
She answered calmly:
“Well, I have guardian spirits too. And of course, so do you.”
I had heard something like that before—the idea that around three ancestors protect each person. But since I have never actually seen anything like that, it is hard for me to fully understand. I think most people are probably the same as me.
So I asked her another question:
“Then… have you ever seen your own guardian spirits?”
Without changing her expression, my wife answered as if it were the most ordinary thing in the world:
“Of course. When I look in the mirror, I can see three of them reflected there.”
Apparently, my wife’s strange ability to see and sense spirits is on an entirely different level.

最近分かったことなのですが、 私の妻は、現在も霊的なチカラがあるようです。私と妻は現在、40代後半ですが、 結婚当初、妻から霊を見る能力のような話をずいぶん聞かされましたが、 子どもが生まれるとともに、妻のその能力は失われたと思っていました。ですが、先日… 「 …実は、まだ普通に見えるの！」と。…妻が話すには、現在中学生の長女が、怖がるといけないから 霊が見える能力の話は、夫の私にも、もう話さない…という考えようです。そんな話の流れから、妻が職場で見た・感じた霊の話しをしたいと思います。
施設のリクライニング・シートに座る、黒い影。。妻の職場には、身体が不自由な方が利用する リクライニング・シートがいくつかあります。背もたれを後方に傾斜できる椅子のようなもので、 ベッドに備え付けられたものもあります。数人部屋にも、複数完備されており、 ご高齢の利用者さんや、身体の不自由な方が上体を起こす時などに 重宝しています。ある日、数人部屋でリクライニング・シートを使用されている 利用者さまの部屋で一緒に談笑している時のこと… 妻が何かを感じ取って…ふと、視線を隣の開いているリクライニング・シートに 目を移すと、なんとそこに 黒い人影のようなものが、リクライニングシートに座っていたそうです。
もちろん、談笑している利用者さまは…気づきません。妻は、何事もなかったように、談笑を続けたそうですが、 談笑中、その黒い人影のようなものは、ほかの空いている リクライニング・シートへ移動したり、談笑している 利用者さんの上に座ったりしたそうです。妻が言うには、「ひやかし」「からかい」のようなものだそうです。…その黒い人影のようなものは、妻が霊が見える・感じることができる人間と わかって仕掛けてくる？そんな感じを受けたそうです。そんな挑発にのってしまうことこそ、相手の思うつぼ…そう 思った妻は、知らぬ存ぜんを通したそうです。
しかし、こののち、妻が談笑していた利用者さんは 亡くなったそうです。老衰とのことでしたが…。病室に3人の発光体…！。。妻が見たり・感じたりする霊的現象？は 怖い話ばかりではありません。職場で妻がよくお話する利用者さんで、とても上品で 徳がある高齢の女性がいらっしゃるそうです。誰に対しても、優しい方で、みんなから好かれている… もちろん、現在もご健在です。この女性の個室に訪れると、必ず… 3人の発光体が…いる！そうです。男性なのか、女性なのかはわかりませんが… キラキラ輝いていて、白っぽいけど人のカタチをしていて その、利用者さんのそばに、いる…そうです。
この3人の発光体は、どうやら、個室の女性の守護霊のようで ご先祖様なのか、近しい方なのか…いづれにせよ 女性を守っているとのことでした。…しかし、妻は、様々な体験をしていて、いまなお 霊的なものが見えたり、感じることが出来る…実際に 怖いとかないのだろうか？私は不思議に思います。私だったら、居てもたってもいられず、どうにかなりそうなものを… いろいろな霊的な話を聞いた後でしたので、素朴にたずねてみました、 「お前は、霊を見たり・感じたりしているけど、怖くないのか？
」と。すると、妻は淡々と 「 …だって、私にも守護霊がいるもの、もちろん…あなたにも！」 まぁ、聞いたことはあります…自分のご先祖様が3人くらいは 守ってくれている、そんな話。しかし、実際には見たことがないので…。ほとんどの方が私と同じだと思います。私は勢い余って、妻に続けて聞きました。「それじゃ、お前は…守護霊をみたことがあるのか？」 妻は、表情を変えることなくあっさり、言いました。「 …そんなの、鏡をみれば、3人、映っているから 」 どうやら、妻の霊を見る・感じる、不思議なチカラは 別格のような気がします
