Chausu Pass, located around Wakimoto Tayasawa-Kanezawa in Oga City, Akita Prefecture, is said to have several unsettling local rumors attached to it.
According to one story, the ghost of a woman with only an upper body appears here regardless of whether it is day or night. She is said to crawl along the ground and chase after people who encounter her.
Another rumor describes an old man walking a short distance ahead on the road. Suddenly, he turns around, bursts into loud laughter, and runs away.
There is also a story told among riders: when passing through the area by motorcycle, the tires may suddenly feel as if they are being pulled, causing the rider to fall.
As for why these stories are connected to the pass, people say there was once a crematorium somewhere nearby. Another tale claims that a high school student died here in a motorcycle accident.
These are local rumors rather than confirmed accounts, but travelers should still treat the area as a real road, not an attraction. If you visit, go during safe conditions, avoid stopping in dangerous places, and do not enter private property or restricted areas.
