Old Mimori Tunnel: Horns, Whispers, and Ghost Stories in Fukushima

A Mysterious Ley Line Linking Jerusalem, China, and Japan?
目次

English Version

Old Mimori Tunnel is said to be a place where strange things happen if you sound your car horn inside the tunnel.

Rumors vary. Some say a headless rider appears. Others claim the ghost of a woman presses herself against a car window. As with many haunted-road stories, the details are unclear, and these accounts should be treated as local rumors rather than confirmed events.

The unsettling reputation is not limited to the tunnel itself. The surrounding old Mimori Pass is also said to be associated with various ghostly phenomena. People walking through the pass have reported hearing faint whispering voices, or the sharp crack of a branch being stepped on behind them—even when no one seems to be there.

The exact origin of these stories is unknown.

Location: Near Prefectural Route 6, Tadano, Osemachi, Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture.

If you visit, be respectful of local traffic and residents. Do not stop in unsafe areas, sound your horn unnecessarily, or enter restricted or dangerous sections of road.
