In Minami, Kaifu District, Tokushima Prefecture, there is a well-known haunted spot near the entrance to Hiwasa Tunnel, along the Tosahama Kaido on Tokushima Prefectural Route 55.
What makes this place unusual is that the center of the stories is not the tunnel itself, but a public phone booth near the entrance. Tokushima has many tunnel-related ghost stories, but a haunted phone booth gives this location a slightly different atmosphere. Among local ghost-spot rumors, the phone booth at Hiwasa Tunnel is often described as one of the more frightening places in the prefecture, and various stories continue to circulate about it.
Some people say fireballs have been seen floating around the phone booth. Others claim that if you step inside the booth and look around the area from there, you may see a wandering spirit nearby.
Because this haunted spot is a phone booth, several of the stories are connected to telephones. According to one rumor, if you stand in front of the booth, your cell phone may suddenly receive a call. The screen will show some kind of caller information, but the number is said to be one the person has never seen before.
Normally, a Japanese mobile number begins with digits such as 090 or 080 and has 11 digits. In these stories, however, the number does not begin with any familiar pattern. Instead, it appears as an unusually long string of numbers. Because of details like this, the location is rumored to be associated with paranormal experiences that are not commonly reported even in Tokushima.
Another story says that if you stand in front of the phone booth late at night, the public phone may suddenly start ringing. When the receiver is picked up, a man’s groaning voice can be heard through the handset.
The person in the story, frightened by the sound, quickly hangs up. But within three days, they receive a call on their own cell phone from an unknown number. When they answer, they hear the same man’s groan that came through the public phone. Gradually, the voice seems to shift until it is coming from behind them. When they turn around, the ghost of a man is said to be standing there.
The phone booth near Hiwasa Tunnel is one of Tokushima’s better-known haunted locations, and it is said to be relatively easy to approach by car compared with some other ghost spots in the prefecture. If you visit the area, do so safely and respectfully: avoid stopping in dangerous places, do not block traffic, do not trespass, and be especially careful at night.

普通、携帯電話からの着信であれば「090」や「080」から始まる番号が一般的ですが、その電話番号は見慣れた数字から始まるものではなく、かつ携帯番号の11桁の番号ではなく、びっくりするくらい長い数字の羅列になっているとのことです。このように、徳島県でもあまり例を見ないような心霊現象に合うと噂されています。また、別の心霊体験事例です。夜中に電話ボックスの前で立っていると突然電話が鳴り出すそうです。電話ボックス内の受話器を取ると、受話器越しに男性のうめき声のようなものが聞こえてくるそうです。
気味が悪いので、すぐに電話を切ったそうなのですが、そのあと3日を待たずとして、自分の携帯電話に非通知着信があるそうです。電話を取ると、公衆電話で取った時の男性のうめき声が聞こえます。次第にその声は背後から聞こえてくるそうです。気が付くと、その男性の幽霊が自分の背後に立っている、と。徳島の心霊スポット、日和佐トンネルの場所はここ。。徳島の心霊スポットとして、日和佐トンネル直近にある電話ボックスを紹介させて頂きました。ここも、他の徳島の心霊スポットと比較すると車で心霊スポットの近くまで行けることを想定するとアクセスしやすいと言えるのではないでしょうか。
