Near Ishii Castle in Ishii Town, Myozai District, Tokushima Prefecture, there is a tunnel known among ghost-spot fans as Dogakuji Tunnel. There are both a newer tunnel and an older one in this area, but the one with the haunted reputation is the old tunnel.
The old Dogakuji Tunnel has reportedly been closed off as part of a Tokushima Prefecture measure. Even so, it remains one of Tokushima’s better-known haunted spots, often spoken of as an “old haunted tunnel” by people interested in local ghost stories.
The Road to the Old Tunnel
According to local accounts, you cannot drive right up to the old Dogakuji Tunnel anymore. A chain blocks the road partway there, so visitors who have gone in the past describe continuing on foot from that point.
The remaining distance is said to be more than one kilometer. Late at night, there are reportedly no lights in the surrounding area, giving the approach a very eerie atmosphere. For that reason alone, it is easy to understand why the place became known as one of Tokushima’s representative haunted locations.
On the way, there are also abandoned structures. It is unclear what they were originally used for. Some look as if they may once have been houses, while others resemble prefab buildings.
A Tunnel Sealed in Concrete
After walking for a while, the tunnel suddenly comes into view. Because so many years have passed, the structure itself has an unsettling, aged appearance.
Today, however, the old Dogakuji Tunnel is completely sealed. The entrance has been filled in with concrete, making it impossible to go inside. This is not just a simple barricade; by all accounts, the closure is solid and total.
For safety and legal reasons, visitors should not attempt to cross barriers, enter closed areas, or interfere with sealed structures. If you are interested in the site, treat it as a local legend to research from safe, public areas only.
Ghost Stories and Rumors
Despite being sealed, the old tunnel continues to be known as a famous haunted spot in Tokushima. Some stories claim that people have experienced sleep paralysis-like symptoms simply from trying to touch the tunnel.
Other rumors speak of a woman’s ghost appearing there, or of a blood-covered male spirit. In the case of the bloodied man, one story claims he may be connected to a hanging suicide that supposedly took place inside the tunnel. As with many haunted-spot rumors, the details are difficult to verify, but they remain part of the tunnel’s reputation.
It is easy to imagine that when the tunnel could still be entered, there may have been even more intense stories associated with it. Today, however, the old Dogakuji Tunnel is closed, sealed, and best approached as a piece of Tokushima ghost-lore rather than a place to explore.

徳島県名西郡石井町石井城近辺に童学寺トンネルという心霊スポットが存在します。この徳島のトンネルでは、は新しいものと古いものが建設されているのですが、心霊スポットとして有名なのは古い方となります。徳島県の施策により現在は封鎖されてしまっているのですが、封鎖されてもなお、旧童学寺トンネルとして徳島県の有名な心霊スポットとして名を馳せています。徳島のおばけトンネル、童学寺トンネルの場所はここ。。徳島県の旧童学寺トンネルは直近まで車でアクセスすることができません。
途中から道路上にチェーンが設置されて封鎖されているため、そこからは徒歩で心霊スポットへ向かう必要があります。心霊スポットまでの距離は約１km以上の道程であることから、深夜に心霊スポットへ向かうと周辺に明かりが一切なく、非常におどろおどろしい雰囲気が醸し出されています。まさに、徳島県を代表する心霊スポットといっても過言ではないでしょう。また、心霊スポットへ行く道中には廃墟も存在しています。何のための建造物であったのかは不明ですが、元は家屋であったような感じする建物もありますし、プレハブのような建物も存在しています。
しばらく徒歩にて心霊スポットに向かっていると、突然トンネルは姿を現します。かなりの年数が経過しているため、構造物としての雰囲気もおどろおどろしいという感じとなっています。徳島の心霊スポット、童学寺トンネルは残念ながら封鎖されてしまった。入口は完全にコンクリートで埋め立てられてしまっていることから、中に入ることはできません。簡単なバリケード程度でしたら無視することは可能と思われますが、ここまでがっちりと封鎖されていると、中への侵入は不可能と言っても過言ではないでしょう。
徳島県の有名な心霊スポットとして名を馳せているところです。中には、トンネルに手を触れてみようとしただけで、金縛りにあってしまったとの報告もあるほどです。ここでは、女性の幽霊であったり、または血まみれの男性の幽霊が出現するという話があります。血まみれの男性の幽霊に至っては、トンネルのなかで首つり自殺したとの噂もありますので、そちらの事件とも何かしらの関連性があるかもしれません。すでにコンクリートで完璧に封鎖されているにも関わらず、未だに徳島の心霊スポットとして訪れる人が絶えない場所となっています。
トンネルの中に入れたころは、もっと強烈な体験談が存在していたということは想像に難くありません。徳島に訪れた際は、興味のある方は自己責任で行かれてみては如何でしょうか。
