Oibanasaki Tunnel, located along the Funakawa Kaido road in Wakimoto Nanasawa, Oga City, Akita Prefecture, is known among some local ghost-spot fans as a haunted tunnel.
Rumors say that stains on the walls can look like human faces, and that the tunnel lights sometimes suddenly go out — though some people jokingly wonder if that is simply an energy-saving measure. Others claim that when photos are taken inside the tunnel, strange orbs or a red mist may appear in the images.
The tunnel is also mentioned together with the nearby Oibanasaki No. 2 Tunnel as a supposedly haunted location. Beyond these stories, however, the details are unclear, and the rumors remain just that: rumors.
If you visit, treat it as an active road area. Do not stop in unsafe places, block traffic, enter restricted areas, or explore on foot where visibility is poor.
