Rumored hauntings

Toseno Park Cemetery in Odate, Akita, is associated with a few unsettling rumors. Some people say a female ghost appears here. Others claim they have heard faint whispering voices speaking Chinese, even though the voices seem to come from nowhere.

A memorial tied to the Hanaoka Incident

Inside the park is a memorial cemetery connected to the Hanaoka Incident of 1945, an event in which Chinese laborers are said to have killed Japanese people. This historical background is often mentioned alongside the ghost stories and gives the site a heavier atmosphere.

Toseno Park Cemetery is located at 161 Nagamori, Hanaoka-machi, Odate City, Akita Prefecture. If you visit, remember that this is a cemetery and memorial area: go only during appropriate hours, stay on public paths, keep quiet, and do not disturb graves, offerings, or nearby residents.
