English Version
Lake Inawashiro, also known as Tenkyōko or the “Heavenly Mirror Lake,” is located in Inawashiro, Yama District, Fukushima Prefecture.
According to local rumors, swimmers sometimes feel as if something is pulling at their legs while they are in the water. It is also said that during the lake-swimming season, several people die there each year, and some believe the spirits of those who drowned remain in suffering, unable to find peace.
These stories should be treated as local legend and hearsay rather than confirmed fact. Still, Lake Inawashiro is a real body of water, and conditions can be dangerous. If you visit, follow posted rules, avoid swimming in unsafe areas, and do not enter the water when conditions are poor.
