In 1954, powerful and influential figures from many fields gathered at a hotel in the Netherlands. The meeting took its name from that hotel and became known as the Bilderberg Meeting, or Bilderberg Conference. Since then, it has continued to be held once a year in different locations.
Among the founders were names such as Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, banker David Rockefeller, Polish diplomat Józef Retinger, and British politician Denis Healey. For anyone who enjoys urban legends and conspiracy lore, the Rockefeller name is hard to ignore. The family is often rumored to have enormous influence over global financial markets.
This article takes a closer look at the mysterious Bilderberg Meeting and why it has attracted so much suspicion.
Why the Bilderberg Meeting Feels So Unusual
What first drew attention to the Bilderberg Meeting was its strict secrecy, combined with the power of the people who attended.
It is said that every year, around 100 to 150 people from the front lines of politics, finance, media, business, and other industries gather to exchange ideas freely about the transatlantic market and global issues. David Rockefeller, one of the founders, is only the most famous example of the level of influence involved.
But the meeting is governed by very strict house rules.
Participants are reportedly allowed to use the information and ideas they hear during the meeting. However, they are not allowed to reveal who said what. They also cannot publicly identify, quote, or disclose the affiliations of other attendees in connection with specific remarks.
Even major figures from the media world are said to attend, but they are not allowed to report on the meeting as journalists.
The official explanation for this secrecy is that participants need a safe space where they can speak freely. Still, from the point of view of the general public, it is easy to understand why people feel uneasy. When so many powerful people gather behind closed doors and all reporting is forbidden, suspicion naturally grows.
According to some accounts, future leaders such as Bill Clinton and Tony Blair attended the Bilderberg Meeting before becoming president or prime minister.
The “One-World Government” Remark
Denis Healey, one of the founders of the Bilderberg Meeting, is said to have made a statement along these lines:
“It would be an exaggeration to say we were striving to establish a world government, but it would not be completely wrong. At Bilderberg, we felt that we could not go on forever with useless wars and killing that created millions of refugees. We thought that perhaps the whole world should become one community.”
The idea of a one-world government is also known in conspiracy circles as the “New World Order.” It is one of the most famous themes in modern conspiracy theory. Healey’s statement is often taken as a sign that the concept of global government was, at least in some form, discussed within Bilderberg circles.
The most unsettling part may be the phrase “millions of refugees.”
As mentioned earlier, the Bilderberg Meeting brings together people with real political, economic, and industrial power. If one reads the statement in the darkest possible way, it can sound almost like this: wars could be started if necessary, but the refugee problem would be inconvenient, so perhaps a world government would be easier.
Of course, that is only an interpretation. But to those already suspicious of the meeting, it can feel as if someone is saying, “The world is already in our hands. What happens next is up to us.”
A British Politician Who Criticized Bilderberg
The Bilderberg Meeting is known for its extremely tight security. Although the subjects discussed could affect many countries and many people, the contents are not made public.
Michael Meacher, a British Labour politician, was one public figure who strongly criticized the meeting. He reportedly accused Bilderberg of being a “conspiracy of the rich and powerful,” operating outside public scrutiny to strengthen and expand market control.
Other conspiracy theories also surround the meeting. Some claim that it is connected to the control of interests in developing countries, or to attempts at legal forms of colonialism and the preservation of global dominance.
For ordinary people, the natural reaction is simple: if these discussions are truly for the public good, why not make them public?
Yet most of what happens inside the Bilderberg Meeting remains hidden. And because the house rules allow participants to use ideas from the meeting without identifying who said them, it raises another strange possibility: the general public may encounter arguments or policies influenced by Bilderberg discussions without ever knowing where they came from.
What Is the True Purpose of the Bilderberg Meeting?
There are many negative opinions and rumors about Bilderberg. But because the people invited are so high-ranking, it is almost impossible for the general public to know the full details of what is discussed.
Among the attendees are said to be executives from oil companies, figures connected to the defense industry, major bankers with vast capital, and even national leaders.
Behind those tightly closed doors, what exactly is being discussed?
For now, the answer remains mostly out of sight. That secrecy is precisely why the Bilderberg Meeting continues to fascinate conspiracy theorists, political watchers, and fans of modern urban legends.

一説によると、大統領に就任する前のアメリカ、ビル・クリントンやトニー・ブレアなどもこの会議に参加していたそうです。創始者の1人の世界統一政府発言とは？。ビルダーバーグ会議の創始者の1人であったデニス・ヒーリーは以下のような発言をしたことがあるそうです。「世界統一政府の樹立にまい進していたというのは言い過ぎだが、あながち見当違いでもない。われわれビルダーバーグ会議では、無益な戦いや殺し合いを永遠に続けて何百万もの難民を生み出すわけにはいかないと思っていた。
それなら、全世界を1つのコミュニティにすればいいのではないかと考えたこともある。」 。世界統一政府構想は別名「ニューワールドオーダー」などとも呼ばれており、陰謀論では比較的有名な話ですが、このビルダーバーグ会議では、実際に世界統一政府についての議論が出たことを明かしているようなものです。さらにこの発言の恐ろしいポイントは、 “何百万の難民” という言葉ではないでしょうか？。前述の通り、ビルダーバーグ会議には世界を動かせるような実力者や権力者が多数存在している訳です。
これを踏まえれば侵略戦争をやろうと思えば出来るが、難民の処理に困るから世界統一政府を樹立してはどうか？という風にも解釈出来ないこともないでしょう。まるで、 「世界はすでに手の中にあるが、どうするかは我々次第だ」と言われているような気がする のは私だけでしょうか？。ビルダーバーグ会議を実際に批判したイギリス人。。このビルダーバーグ会議はあまりにも警備が厳重なことで知られており、会議の内容が多くの国や人々にとって大切であるにも関わらず、一切公表されないことから、イギリスの労働党議員でるマイケル・ミーチャーという政治家がこの会議を取り上げて激しく非難していたようです。
その内容はビルダーバーグ会議は公衆の監視が入らないところにおいて、市場支配の強化と拡大を目論んだ「金持ちと権力者の陰謀集団」であると糾弾しています。その他にも、いわゆる発展途上国の利権問題などを巡って、合法的な植民地化や覇権保持を目論んでいるといった陰謀論も耐えません。公衆にとって最善の方法であるならば、堂々と公開してほしいというのが、集団心理でしょう。しかし、ビルダーバーグ会議の内容は今もほとんどが秘匿されたままです。また、ハウスルールによって定められているように、発言を利用しても良いが、誰が発言したかを明示出来ないため、 我々一般大衆は知らない間に、このビルダーバーグ会議の発言であるかもしれない主張をどこかで聞いているかもしれない のです。
ビルダーバーグ会議の真の目的とは…。このように、数多くの否定的な意見はあれど、実際に招集される人物の地位が高すぎるためにその内容はおろか、 詳細を一般大衆が知ることはほとんど不可能に近い ものがあります。この集まる人物の中には、昨今エネルギー問題になっている石油会社の経営者や、軍需産業に関わる人物もいるそうです。それらに加えて、大資本を持つ銀行家や一国の大統領など…。固く閉鎖された扉の奥で一体何が話し合われているのでしょうか？
