Tenri Dam in Tenri City, Nara Prefecture, is surrounded by unsettling rumors: a young man standing with his head bowed, blood flowing from the receiver of a phone booth, and the spirit of a boy appearing near the area.
The dam is also known locally as a place associated with suicides. To reach it, visitors must follow a winding mountain road with many curves before finally arriving at the dam itself. The difficulty of this road is likely one direct reason why accidents are said to happen here so often.
Still, some people argue that if you ignore the site’s rumored supernatural background, you may never fully understand why accidents continue to occur.
The area is located around Shimonigocho, Tenri City, Nara Prefecture, along Prefectural Route 247. If you go, treat it as a real mountain road rather than just a haunted spot: drive cautiously, avoid stopping in dangerous places, follow all posted signs, and do not enter restricted areas.
