The Phone Booth Near Lake Suwa and the Silent Woman in White

When an Ancestor Came Through During a Phone Psychic Reading: A Japanese Ghost Story About a Neglected Grave
目次

English Version

Late at night, people say that anyone passing in front of this phone booth may encounter a woman dressed in white.

She does not call out or try to speak. According to the rumor, she simply follows behind in silence. Then, before you realize it, she is gone.

Lake Suwa has long been associated with deaths from accidents and suicide, and it is said that bodies have sometimes surfaced near the floodgates. Perhaps, the story suggests, those spirits cannot let go of their wish to return home—and so they fall into step with the living on their way back.

Location: 1 Minato, Okaya City, Nagano Prefecture. If you visit the area, stay on public roads, be considerate of nearby residents, and avoid unsafe waterside or floodgate areas, especially at night.
