English Version

At Otamoi Coast in Otaru, people say that late at night, the voices of many people can be heard coming from the seaside, even when no one is supposed to be there. Another rumor claims that if you take a photo of the water, countless hands may appear on the surface of the sea.

A Lost Showa-Era Tourist Spot

In 1936, the “Dream Village Otamoi Amusement Park” was completed here. At the time, it was one of the area’s leading tourist attractions.

After World War II, however, a fire of unknown cause reportedly broke out and burned the site down. A gate that survived the fire is said to still remain on the cliff above the coast.

A Grim Reputation

In later years, the area became known as a suicide spot. The body of the then-president of JR Hokkaido was also found there, adding to Otamoi’s dark reputation.

The location is associated with Otamoi 4-chome 34, Otaru, Hokkaido. If visiting the area, be cautious around cliffs, rough coastline, and poor visibility, and respect any closures or restricted areas.
