Kanagawa Prefecture, located near Tokyo, is not just known for its bustling cities and beautiful landscapes; it is also home to numerous haunted spots that have left locals and visitors alike intrigued and terrified. These locations are steeped in history, often marked by tragic events, making them popular among those fascinated by urban legends and the supernatural.
One of the most notorious haunted locations is the Lawson at the site of the former Yokosuka Hayashi 5-chome. Originally intended for a residential building, this site became infamous after a series of mysterious incidents halted its construction. The most significant event occurred in 1950 when a bus carrying around fifty passengers caught fire, resulting in a catastrophic explosion that claimed the lives of 19 people. Rumors circulated that the Lawson store built on the site experienced ghostly encounters, particularly in the restroom, leading to its eventual closure.
Another chilling site is the Kotsubo Tunnel, known for the crematory located above it. Many have reported eerie experiences, including apparitions of a woman standing with her hand raised, and the unsettling feeling of a ghostly presence in the backseat of their car. Such stories have cemented the tunnel’s reputation as a hotspot for paranormal activity.
The Shitodo Cave is also steeped in legend, believed to be the hiding place of Minamoto no Yoritomo after his defeat. Within this cave, numerous Jizo statues can be found, some of which are said to exhibit angry expressions. Local lore claims that if one encounters three headless stone statues, their death is imminent.
Then there’s the Sedomura Slope, infamous for the tragic kidnapping and murder of a seven-year-old girl in February 1984. Eyewitnesses have reported hearing a child’s voice on rainy nights, along with sightings of a dark silhouette resembling the girl.
In the abandoned village of Tanaura, over twenty deserted houses tell a story of neglect and hauntings. Residents left the village in 1997, and it has since become a site for ghostly rumors, particularly surrounding a dilapidated home known as the “Kayako House,” where a girl’s spirit is said to appear.
Among the most eerie locations is the Crying Tower, built by the local community to mourn the fallen soldiers of the Susaki Battle in 1333. It is said that those who approach the tower will be cursed, and many have reported hearing cries at night.
While these spots are steeped in folklore and urban legends, it’s essential to approach them with caution. Many are private properties or places where entry is prohibited. Visitors are advised to respect these locations and be mindful of the potential dangers that can arise from exploring such haunted sites.

田浦廃村では、20軒以上の廃屋が放置されており、無人の村として知られるようになりました。1997年に住民が立ち退いたこの村は、特に「伽椰子の家」として知られる廃屋の周辺で、少女の霊が現れるという噂が広がっています。
泣塔は、1333年に周辺住民が洲崎合戦の戦死者を弔うために建てた塔であり、近づくと呪われると言われており、夜にはすすり泣く声が聞こえることが多いとされています。
