Many people are drawn to haunted places, even when they know they should be careful. Some say they visited a so-called haunted spot just for fun and ended up regretting it. Chiba Prefecture is best known for beaches, temples, coastal drives, and easy trips from Tokyo, but it also has its share of places with dark reputations.
Among them, Osen-korogashi in Chiba is often described by ghost-spot fans as one of the prefecture’s most frightening locations.
What Is Osen-korogashi?
Osen-korogashi is a stretch of cliffs running for about 4 kilometers from the western side of Katsuura City toward Kamogawa. The old national road once passed along the middle of these cliffs, and the area was known for frequent traffic accidents and falls. It has also long been associated with suicides, which helped give the place its unsettling reputation.
Today, a newer national road has been built, and the old road is closed and off-limits. You cannot drive through it or enter the closed sections. However, people can still reach the area near the entrance by train or on foot, which is one reason it continues to be discussed as a haunted place.
The name Osen-korogashi is said to come from a woman named Osen who fell from the cliff long ago. In this story, “korogashi” refers to falling or being rolled down. Osen was reportedly the daughter of the Kosen family, a local powerful clan.
According to the legend, Osen’s father was a greedy man who believed money could solve anything. His treatment of the villagers was said to be cruel, almost demonic. Osen grieved over her father’s actions and tried to persuade him to change, but he refused to listen. In the end, she is said to have thrown herself from the cliff, hoping her death would make him repent.
Because of this tragic story, the cliff came to be known as Osen-korogashi. Some people say Osen’s sadness still lingers there, and that the accidents and suicides associated with the area may be connected to a spirit trying to send a message. These are only local rumors and beliefs, but they remain part of the atmosphere surrounding the place.
The Later Tragedy at Osen-korogashi
The legend of Osen is not the only tragedy tied to this location. In the Showa era, a brutal murder case also took place at Osen-korogashi.
On October 10, 1951, a mother and her three children came to Katsuura Station in Chiba to search for her husband, who had disappeared while working as a peddler. There, a man named Genzo Kurita lured the four of them away. Late the following night, he threw the eldest son and eldest daughter from the cliff at Osen-korogashi. He then assaulted the mother and threw her over the cliff as well, along with the younger daughter she was carrying on her back.
The case was reportedly shocking at the time. According to accounts of the incident, the victims did not fall all the way down at first and were caught partway along the cliff. Kurita then killed them by striking them with stones. Miraculously, the eldest daughter survived with minor injuries after hiding.
It is said that this case helped make Osen-korogashi widely known as a frightening place. After such an incident, along with the area’s history of falls and suicides, it is easy to understand why ghost stories began to gather around it.
Even if the case has faded from many people’s memory today, it remains an important and painful part of the history of Osen-korogashi.
Rumors and Strange Experiences
The area near the memorial stone for Osen is now approached by a narrow paved path. On both sides are wooded slopes and mountain terrain. At night, there is almost no artificial light, and the place becomes completely dark. That alone gives it the kind of atmosphere people often associate with haunted locations.
Visitors have reported hearing strange sounds in the trees, like something sliding rapidly down the mountainside with a loud rustling noise, then returning straight back at the same speed. Some say the area does not seem like a place where animals would be moving around in that way, which has led them to wonder if something else was responsible.
Other reported experiences include sudden flashes of light like a camera flash on an empty path, the sound of a woman singing, the ringing of bells, and a low male groan heard by people standing nearby. These stories are rumors and personal accounts, not confirmed events, but they have helped maintain Osen-korogashi’s reputation among ghost-spot enthusiasts.
Because the old road is now closed, many people may feel relieved that the most dangerous sections cannot be accessed. Still, Osen-korogashi remains one of Chiba’s best-known haunted places.
Visiting the Area Today
For people interested in haunted places, Osen-korogashi can be tempting to visit. However, the actual old road and the site connected to the murder case are closed to traffic and off-limits. Do not enter restricted areas, climb fences, or attempt to reach closed cliffside sections.
The general area can be approached from near the former Namegawa Island area. The nearest station is JR Namegawa Island Station. There is also a parking area near National Route 128, before the Osen-korogashi Tunnel, and from there it is possible to walk along the designated path toward the memorial area.
At the memorial site, there is a large stone monument dedicated to Osen. At night, the surroundings are extremely dark, and when your eyes adjust you can tell that the sea lies beyond the cliffs. There is a fence, but beyond it is the sheer drop of Osen-korogashi. The cliff itself cannot be reached directly today; it can only be viewed from a safe distance.
If you are curious and decide to go, visit during daylight, stay on public paths, and be respectful. This is not only a ghost-story location, but also a place connected to real deaths and grief.
A Haunted Place With Real Danger Behind the Legend
Chiba has many places described as haunted, but Osen-korogashi is often singled out as especially frightening. Even from a distance, the cliffs look dangerous. In the past, when there were no fences or modern safety measures, the road must have been terrifying for travelers.
Even without ghost stories, it would likely still be remembered as a hazardous place. With the legend of Osen, the history of falls, and the 1951 murder case, it is understandable that the site became surrounded by rumors of spirits.
Haunted-spot trips have become a form of entertainment for some people, but many so-called haunted locations are places where real incidents happened. Sometimes the most disturbing places are not the ones advertised as haunted, but ordinary-looking locations with painful histories behind them.
Chiba is also known among occult fans for other haunted spots, including Hotel Katsugyo, also known as Yui Grand Hotel; Daruma Shrine, also called Shirahata Shrine, which is associated with a murder case; and Sakura Castle Ruins Park, where an execution ground is said to have existed. If you explore places like these, do so legally, safely, and with respect for the people connected to their histories.

。。ですが、現在千葉県のこの場所は新国道ができており、旧道は立ち入り禁止で通行は出来なくなっています。ただ、入り口付近までは電車などで行くことが出来るので、心霊スポットとなっています。千葉県にあるおせんころがしと呼ばれるこの心霊スポットですが、何故おせんころがしと呼ばれるようになったのか紹介します。実は大昔、「おせん」という女性が転落したからです。。。転落したことを「ころがし」と例えているのですよね。おせんは土地の豪族の古仙家の娘だったそうです。
おせんの父はお金さえあれば何でも出来ると思い込んでいる強欲な人物であり、 村人に対する日々の仕打ちは鬼のようだった のです。そして、 その娘であるおせんはその父の行いを嘆き、父を止めようと説得 をしました。。ですが、父はその説得を聞き入れてはくれず、ついに命をもって改心させようと思ったそうです。こうして、おせんは身を投げたのですが、その場所が「おせんころがし」と呼ばれるようになったそうです。千葉県のおせんころがしにはこのような悲しい事件があったそうですね。
昔から心霊スポットという場所は誰かがその場所で悲しい亡くなり方をしている場合が多く、そういった場所は霊が出ると言われています。。きっとおせんの悲しい思いが霊となってさまよっているのでしょう。。千葉県にはこのような悲しい話が存在するのですよね。もしかしたら、自殺や転落事故はおせんの霊が何らかのメッセージを訴えてしているのかもしれません。千葉県の心霊スポットに興味がある人は知っておいてくださいね。千葉県に観光に行く際はおせんころがしという心霊スポットがあるということを覚えておいてください。
。千葉県心霊スポットの悲しい事件。。千葉県にあるおせんころがしについて詳しく紹介したのですが、これだけ聞くと「怖いな」と思うかもしれません。ですが、実は千葉県の心霊スポット「おせんころがし」の悲しい事件はこれだけではありません。同じ場所で悲しい事件が千葉県の心霊スポットで起こっているのです。おせんという女性が亡くなったのはかなり昔のことなのですよ。昭和になってから、かなり残虐な事件が千葉県のおせんころがしで発生したのです。。では、千葉県で起こったこの事件を紹介します。
。1951年10月10日母と子供3人が行商に出たまま行方不明になった夫を探すために千葉県勝浦駅に訪れたのです。そこで、栗田源蔵という男が母子4人を誘い出し、 翌日深夜長男と長女を「おせんころがし」で投げ落としたあげく、主婦に暴行をして、主婦が背負っていた次女ごと投げ落とすという痛ましい事件が発生 しました。当時はかなり衝撃的な事件だったと言われています。読んで分かるように本当に残虐な事件ですね。また、被害者たちは完全に転落することなく、崖の途中でひっかかって一旦は助かったといいます。
ですが、犯人の栗田はそんな被害者たちを石で殴打して殺害したのです。。長女だけは軽傷で隠れていたため、奇跡的に生き延びたのです。千葉県にあるおせんころがしと呼ばれていた心霊スポットなのですが、この事件で一気に有名になったのではないかと言われています。この事件は当時とても有名で誰もが知っていることだったので、とても恐怖に思ったでしょう。確かにこのようなことがあれば心霊スポットとして有名になってもおかしくはないですよね。実際にこの事件があった後にこの心霊スポットでは転落事故が起きたり、自殺者が多発すれば、幽霊が出ると噂されても仕方がないように思います。
。現在では忘れてしまっているかもしれませんが、千葉県のおせんころがしという心霊スポットで、こんな悲しい事件があったということを忘れないようにしたいですね。今は観光地おせんころがしとなっていおり、この心霊スポットは入り口からお仙の碑までの細い一本道は舗装されているものの、左右は山肌が広がり、木々に覆われています。夜は人工的な明かりは一切なく漆黒の闇が広がって、いかにも「何か出る」というような雰囲気が漂っています。。実際にこの心霊スポットに来た人は、その木々の中を山の上からザザザーっと勢い良く何かが滑り落ちてくる音がしたかと思うとザザザーっとまったく同じ速度でまっすぐに帰っていく音を聞いたそうです。
このあたりは生物が生息しているとも思えないので、「幽霊がいる」と思ってしまいますよね。それだけでなく、 誰もいないこの道でカメラのフラッシュのような閃光を複数人が目撃したり、女性の歌声や鈴の音、男の低いうなり声がその場にいた人たちが聞いている そうです。これを聞くと幽霊のしわざだと思っても仕方がないのかもしれません。悲しい事件が二つもあれば、噂にもなりますし、心霊スポットになり、怖くて誰も通りたくはないですね。千葉県にあるこの場所は今は通行止めになっているので、安心した人も多いでしょう。

ですが、近くまでは行くことができます。車で行川アイランド跡に行き、そこからは徒歩でしかたどり着けないようですね。。心霊スポットと言われているあたりは真っ暗で静まりかえっています。おせんころがしと呼ばれる心霊スポットには「おせん」さんを慰霊するための石碑があります。大きな石碑で夜に行くとそのあたりは真っ暗となっており、良く見てみるとあたりは海であることが分かるレベルです。。柵があるので、落ちることはありませんが、ここを超えたら「おせんころがし」の断崖絶壁です。
今はその場所にたどり着くことができず、この場所から見ることしかできません。そして、この石碑がある場所こそが、千葉県にあるおせんころがしの心霊スポットとなっています。千葉県にあるおせんころがしの心霊スポットの行きかたはJR行川アイルランド駅の近くで、国道128号の「おせんころがしトンネル」の手前になる駐車場があり、そこから歩いていけます。そこから歩道があるので、歩いていくことが可能です。もし、千葉県にある心霊スポットに興味があるなら一度覗いてみるといいですね。
。ただ、上記でも紹介しましたが、実際に殺人事件が千葉県のおんせんころがしの場所には直接はいけません。今は通行止めになっているので、心霊スポットになっているおせんの石碑までです。人気がない場所で、夜も真っ暗なので、怖い人は明るい時間に行くことをおすすめします。。。このように、千葉県にある心霊スポット「おせんころがし」について紹介しました。直接その場所へ行くことは出来ませんが、遠くから見てもかなり断崖だったことが分かります。遠くからなら、おせんころがしの場所が見えるので、そこからなら見ることが出来ます。
千葉県にもたくさんの心霊スポットがありますが、おせんころがしはその中でも特に怖いと言われています。。実際に殺人事件があった場所なので、当然、何らかの事を言われてしまうでしょう。遠くから見てみても危ない場所だなというのが分かります。。当時は柵など何もなかったので、通る人もとても怖かったでしょう。噂がなくても「危険な場所」と言われそうです。興味がある方は千葉県に行ったときに近くまで見に行ってみましょう。心霊スポットには…。近年心霊スポット巡りをエンターテイメントの1つとして行っている方も多いですが。
